Mark Ramprakash: Player of the Year

Not sure I agree with this stuff. Sussex were by FAR the best team, but credit where credit's due.... Ramps had a great year. As did Mushy, Lewry, Adams etc. Ramps carried his team, while Mushy et all played in a great team. It's far easier to be a successful spinner when your batsman regularly put 400 on the board.

We did the double, and we can't have everything. So calm down

The 1st v 2nd div in the County Championship is never comparable with premiership v Championship. If a team gets relegated in football they lose all their best players who go back to playing in the Premiership. That doesn't happen in cricket.

Admittedly there are some poor sides in the 2nd div (Glamorgan, Derby etc) but on the hole the standard is not hugely different.

As someone who lives in Slurrey but is still Sussex 100% through, I have to say that I though that Ramps efforts this year would land him a seat on the plane to Australia. I know he has been tried on numerous occasions before, but to average over 100 per innings is no mean feat and what kind of message does his non selection send out to county cricketers of both divisions?

Apparently these dinners are always opened in prayer by the Players Association chairman. This being Martyn ball who plays for Glos lead with the following prayer:

God bless the wine and food we eat
To retain the Ashes would be an amazing feat
England’s passion is second to none
So watch out Warnie here we come
