how does that work then?

I thought he played in the Second Division and just bullied crap bowling on batting tracks at the Oval?

no awards for Sussex at the PCA dinner - I suppose that is fair enough given such a poor season

To be fair, I was expecting a Lancashire clean sweep, they must feel hard done by being the best team in the land and all that.

Murray Goodwin did win the most sixes in CC1 award.

I saw this earlier, I couldn't quite understand it. Are the awards only for people that qualify to play for England? What is the 'Instinct Award' and why did Ian Bell win it?

Sussex SURELY deserve some recognition?

Edit: No, I am wrong, Ramps beat Mushtaq to the award.

What a bunch of shit.

Is this for real!

Moshe have you not read the second clause of the PCA charter.

I quote:

1 Thou shall worship the might of counties such as Lancashire, Surrey and Yorkshire and ignore the efforts of honest hardworking cricket pro's who play for a county who do not have the financial support and backing of the ECCB by playing test cricket at thier home Grounds.

2 Thou shall pick the England teams fron the mighty counties.

I heard this earlier and was puzzled somewhat by it.

Like the PFA player of the year award getting picked from the Championship.

If Ramprakash is so f***ing good why isn't he swigging champagne whilst doing a tour on an open top bus?

Cockers.

Not that I suppose Mushy needs any further recognition, he must know that we all LOVE him

Agree - but I'll settle for having the Championship and C&G in the trophy cabinet! Must stand a good chance of getting Team of the Year at the BBC Sports Personality surely?!

I believe the Instinct award is for a catch or other momennt of sheer brilliance - not sure what Bell one it for tho

Oh yes. I think it was a catch for England.

We at least deserve a mention for team of the year, but I am sure someone like Chelsea will take the award.

I think the Ryder Cup team will be collecting that honour.

Surely the Ryder Cup team can't win team of the year as they aren't British. Not sure there is an overseas team of the year?

Regards Ramps, mate of mine who plays for Glos reckons he is consistently the best player he comes up against in county cricket. Surely a wasted talent in term sof England. I reckon he would have played 100 tests and averaged nearly 50 in tests if he had come into a winning England which is what the likes of Bell and Cook have done.

I think Ramprakash does deserve the award he has scored an incredible amount of runs this season in all competitions averaging over 100 in the championship.

I agree that is impressive. But is it more impressive than taking 102 wickets in just 15 matches? Or playing in a double winning side that was one match away from winning an unprecedented TREBLE? And - as has been said before - Ramprakash played in the basement division.

I don't recall the FA being stupid enough to give Steve Bull the player of the year award when he was banging in 50 goals a season against the likes of Rochdale and Hartlepool.

I hadn't thought of that through re Ryder Cup. There's deffo overseas personality, I can't place there being an o/s team.
Would it not be splitting hairs though as you could conceivably say Arsenal could win o/s team of the year. :D

Worth checking out the Ramps interview in the Sunday Times a few weeks ago.
The basic jist was that he would never have made it in the test arena, because of the imense amount of pressure he put on himself.
It would be interesting to know what he would think now he has a little more perspective,

Spot on SIM. Yes, Ramps has scored a lot of runs, but against 2nd class bowling. He hasn't taken 102 wickets in 15 matches against 1st division batsmen.

Therefore he can f*** right off.

Agreed

As has been pointed out he did it in the SECOND DIVISION. It's the equivalent of a Championship player being PFA Player of the Year.

But as was also pointed out it's in Cricket's Charter that Surrey, Lancashire and Yorkshire are always the best counties and always have the best players. If little things like Cups and League placings don't reflect this immutable fact then they can be safely ignored. It's the same reasoning that initially picked Rikki Clarke ahead of Mike Yardy for the one-dayers - "He plays for Surrey, he must be good." It was only when he demonstrated beyond all possible doubt that he'll never be an international cricketer all the while he has a hole in his arse that the selectors realised that, in this one single instance, the Cricket Charter was wrong.

indeed - even as Sussex fans we have to recognise it will be good for the game that the proper order of things is restored next year...

the "Big 3" in their rightful placings battling it out for the county championship is a mouthwatering prospect - hopefully the likes of Warwickshire and nouveau riche Hampshire will be able to put up a challenge from the second group of clubs
