Good for McGee that he took the blame on the chin. So apparent that after 20 mins of the second half, some of the guys were tiring and the potent threat of McPhee and Virgo, ably supported by Hammond was diminishing.
Why El-Abd was taken off beats me as he was having a far better game than Hinsh. Knight on with Chippy and Jarrett could probably have forced another goal.Who knows. But 3 subs on with only a few mins left was futile.
Not often we have to give Danny C the thumbs down. Mayo hardly put a foot wrong but as for Harding....... He just aint hacking it this season.
Coming from behind to win a game: I thought QPR must be useless and they did not look dangerous, but they created more chances that us and has more shots on goal, albeit their twelve off-target was misleading as some went for a throw-in.
Not all doom and gloom for me. McGhee just got it wrong.
We had a lot of energy and ball winning muscle. Alas, a decided lack of guile. Newcastle played the same in midweek and got away with it.
If Leon Knight had been playing, the offsides would have been worse!
I suppose Nicolas was meant to be an anchor man of sorts in midfield. He tried OK, but for me he was completely out of his depth. He didn't do much running either. Just ran around the centre circle making tackles and he wasn't there when he was needed.
In a lower dicvision we would have got away with it. Even in this division, I didn't expect the presence of mind for their goalscorers to curl the ball in for the first and last goals. I would have expected to go the way of a their more wayward attempts going near the corner flag. But they had so many shots, I suppose some must be on target.
he got it wrong, kerry mayo aint a centre back surely virgo could of gone back into centre back and then leon knight could go up front with leon.
adam el abd is not really good enough for this divison, and i really think danny cullip needs his hernia op sooner or later because you can see he was struggling.
I agree MM made his substitutions too late (again), but lets face it - second half we did'nt manage 1 attempt that I can remember on target, and we're supposed to be the home side. We have to do more going forward.
Our lack of a first division quality forward is always going to hamper us this season. Both on Tuesday and today we were very close to getting a result and I think just this one acquisition up front is all we need. But I suppose it's unlikely anyone will be brought in as we're skint. I did though chuck in £120 in to the support fund today. If as many as possible chuck in a ton we may be able to find that elusive forward.
Here's hoping.
PS - I'm still positive we'll do enough to stay up.
Fair play to MM he has said he must take responsibility for that, and he must. The changes were FAR too late. Chippy on for Hammond, plus Jarrett for Hinsh (we looked very short of pace today) and Knight for McPhee, should all have happened no later than 70 mins.
On Cullip, I thought he kept Furlong pretty quiet. As soon as Furlong did get away he scored. He has been their form player so far this season, so that was no mean achievement. For me Cullip has always looked more vulnerable when he has had a less experienced partner. Give him Morgan, Blackwell or Butters and he's twice the player. Just think back to 2 years ago after Morgan had retired and before Blackwell was signed. He's a great player DC, but does need to be able to concentrate on his game, not looking out for his partner.
Currie 6
Hammond 5
Nicolas 0 (verging on minus 2)
Hinshelwood 7
McPhee 4 (not quite ready yet)
Virgo 7
Apart from Nicolas, I thought all the players were really up to it against QPR, a below average side for the division.
El Dabh, McPhee looked like they might struggle to make the grade, but the encouraging thing was that the rest looked better than their QPR counterparts, except many were not playing in their best positions.
That is not putting Nicolas as a scapegoat, Mike McGhee has already admitted responsibility. It would be great to have an anchor man in the Nicolas/Oatway position but neither of them are up to it. Carpenter seems to be the better bet, but not really an anchor man. I say try Danny Cullip in this position. And have Hinshelwood and Virgo as the central defenders. Or, perhaps, Butters as a mentor.
What happened Darren Hay, the centre half for Walsall? He looked like a centre half that was OK.
Game of opinions Perseus, but I can't believe you thought so little of Nicolas's display today. He was very industrious, broke up a lot of their play, and showed great control and passing ability when bringing ball away. I felt Hammond went off his game second half causing Nicolas to be overrun a bit, but that was not his thought. He battled on really well IMHO.
But alas he reminded me of my own play when I played football. I was acute enough to make all the tackles he did. I did not have the stamina to cover more than a small area of the pitch. Even , I was better at spotting a through ball. Not that we had a right wing or anybody was running off the ball.
I think Nicolas only ever received one ball out of defence which he just laid off to Danny Harding.
And although he made less misdirected passes than Charlie Oatway, he still made wasted passes. And not even adventorous ones. He did not create a single thing in the whole match. And what is more in the last minute even Leon Knight went back, and it was Nicolas' job to challenge for the ball headed out of defence.
Basically, Albion were playing with ten men for the whole of the match.
Nothing wrong with his commitment. He was just out of his class.
The central midfield role demands a better player. Sorry. He tries hard enough, but he just aint good enough.
He did appear to be a bit more in the game than Hammond.
Stop slating mghee he's top drawer manager and he's made a couple of bad decisions against QPR, and u want the chop he'll steer us clear. I hate place yeah they lost too
