I know nothing about it. Am I missing something? For me, the 60s socialist parable is unsurpassable.

Always a classic, his review of Danny Dyer’s Pimp. Whenever I hear Danny Dyer’s name I always hear it the way Kermode’s says it in this review.

Big big fan of Kermode and Mayo, love their podcast, intellectual radio with few pretensions other than an intimate love and knowledge of cinema, dressed up as two old men bickering

Didn't know that but I like him even more now.
Always find him entertaining and informative and generally agree with his reviews. He probably has an inflated ego but I'd rather listen to someone with one of those than any of the stream of tediously mediocre types that clog up the airwaves in general.

I think he goes in to every film with an open mind which is what he should do. If a film is rubbish he will say why it is rubbish but with caveats about what he thinks the film was trying to achieve and why it failed. Even in bad films he will often flag up something that was good and some of the reasons why he thinks the film may have failed for him. However, quite often he will say along the lines of " Go and see it and see what you make of it and I'll be interested to see what others think.
He's not perfect, he's paid to give an opinion but he's pretty fair.

Some might not like Kermode, but his reviews are always carefully reasoned.
I like him and his show with Simon Mayo.
I don't always agree with him. You can pretty much guarantee he will dislike the gross out comedies or the "high" comedies hollywood seems to specialise in. And he will be more favourable on horrors. But all film critics will have their own biases. As a listener/reader, it's about understanding where these biases are and accounting for them when taking any reviews under consideration. I like his type of reviewer, the learned sort that frame their opinions and reviews in an almost academic knowledge of film history. He doesn't like things just because they're indie, or hate them just because they're hollywood. He's willing to revisit films and change his opinion. He doesn't think him liking a film is the be all and end all of it, he recognises that liking or not of a film is a subjective thing.
Yeah, he probably is a bit arrogant, but no one gets into reviewing, presenting a radio show, going on TV etc, without an ego. People who think they or their opinion are meaningless and no one is interested in them wouldn't bother broadcasting them or presenting them to the world.
