There are channels to go about this properly, rather than moan to the local press. One of the the "Moanees" said - "The fact they can only be viewed from Monday to Friday, in office hours, is a huge barrier to getting feedback" - suggesting that he hasnt seen the plans in full.

And thats part of the role of the local press to inform and promote discussion abouts such things. The council are obliged to publish a description of the planning application in the paper and invite comments. The paper may present an article about it because the public may be interested. However, many people can never get to view the full plans.

Have you seen the plans in full? If not, why do you appear to be blindly supporting them? Perhaps you saw an artists impression of what it might just look like if the developers don't try to save a bucket load of money when they construct it. If this is the case then you are probably worse than the people you call moaners as you are criticising them for moaning about something you know nothing more about than they do. However, you may be fully versed with the plans and their impact in which case you just want to stiffle the legitimate right of people to express their views.

Brighton and Hove's population has actually declined in the past 40 years. There is a shortage of land and high rise buildings are essential if the city is not to become an exclusive place where only rich metropolitan incomers can buy property.
But it is important that these essential high rise buildings are attractive and blend in to the cream/white/light grey look of the surroundings. Black shiny towers are ok in Chicago but wouldn't fit in.
The opportunity to build high shouldn't be hi-jacked or compromised. The nimby's have prevented anything worthwhile being built for a long time.

I dont want to "stiffle" anyone. Or stifle for that matter. In my original thread I merely pointed out that there have been many letters complaining about the towers.

I have seen the plans and have read about them and the potential impact etc. I studied planning at University, so I take an interest in this sort of topic, particularly if it involves my beloved Brighton & Hove.

We could go round in circles - if they have a right to write into the paper expressing their views, then I have a right to express my views, regarding their views.

When I was a kid, the population of B&H was about 150k, it's now over 200k. Just take a look around at the amount of new houses that have gone up in the last 40 years:

Bevendean hospital: now a housing estate.

Bottom end of Varndean/Stringer playing fields: now a housing estate.

Woods off Coldean Lane; now student accommodation

Look at the number of blocks of flats by the station (with more to be built).

Brighton is growing rapidly- that's why there's so much interest in looking for housing sites.

And high rise must be the solution in addition to regular housing. Our greenfields are precious and some bastard football club has just decided, spur of the moment, to build a whopping great arena on an idyllic bit of downland.

In the 60s the population of Brighton was 164,000 and Hove 80,000. I believe the current population is at least 20,000 less than that total. As for the area around the station and towards New England Rd, there were lots of terraced houses there 40 years ago.
