As soon as I read ‘Uppity’ I thought of the Sheriff in the masterpiece that is ‘Blazing Saddles’. Clearly Rashford is Sheriff Bart and the spectator are the railroad crew of Taggert and lyle.

It looks like The Speccy may have got cold feet about publishing it. Of course, it may still happen but I bet they've been shocked by the backlash on this

It's amazing really because the mantra of capitalism and trickle down economics is that success and profits creates jobs and prosperity making it easier to help the vulnerable. I thought this was the basic tenet of the Conservative Party and right of centre thinking.

However, when someone 'doing good' is commercially successful, it's considered 'champagne socialism' - and yet the criticism is the very basis of the politics they believe in? Why shouldn't Rashford be commercially driven as well as helping and promoting good causes, and being active politically to campaign for things he believes in?

Same with Lewis Hamilton in some regards, I don't remember David Beckham getting lots of stick from the press for his commercialism as well as supporting good causes and fronting charity work while courting attention and promoting the world's biggest brands. Hamilton and Rashford on the other hand, how dare they flaunt their success...

To be fair Beckham has had loads of stick, but it didnt stick. From memory it was some leaked emails regarding the fact he wasn't given a gong.

He didn't respond and the tabloids eventually looked elsewhere.

I don't want to insult anybody's intelligence, but for those who do not regularly read the Spectator, I think it's important to distinguish it from a newspaper. Whilst the Telegraph (for which many of the writers of the Spectator also do work for) will most likely only publish one side of the argument on a certain matter, the Spectator will usually offer a broader range of opinion across the political spectrum, from smack bang in the centre to further right. For example, whilst the periodical tends to lean towards pro-Brexit, there are regular columnists like Matthew Parris who left the Conservative Party over Brexit and encouraged people to vote Lib Dem in 2019 over the issue. I thus would be hesitant to criticise whatever article was intended to be published before:

A) Anyone's even read it.
B) Checking there aren't counter articles in support of Rashford, which is something that would not be unusual for the Spectator to do.
