Not all - but I do suspect a high percentage of these accounts are probably middle eastern etc

That wouldn't have been written if Elphicke thought she'd get the sack for showing the party in a bad light.

I'm a moderate Conservative and I'm totally repelled by the bluekip right wing extremists who have taken over the party.

I'll be voting for the opposition until they are booted out.

Cameron's form of Conservatism posed a serious threat to the socio-liberal ground that Labour had taken. I struggled to get my head round the young turks that had turned up in the party. It was only the old guard who were 'nasty'. My problem with them was that they had somehow moved to a sharper form of capitalism. It's just that it became harder to identify the foe with all the socially friendly faces that were genuine rather than masked.

I don't know what they stand for now. Politically they have almost taken on a socialist mantle during Covid although that will change. In other aspects they seemed to have appeased far right ideals. It's a mess. And with Johnson at the helm, just trying to make a political career of opportunism, it will get no better.

I wish they would return to the 'one nation' stuff and hold on to their new social ideals. I don't think I've ever felt such antipathy towards a government. But I guess parliament is a reflection of the nation at large.

If they had elected Jeremy Hunt I think we would have seen a better picture emerging.

I didn’t say they would.
As for the country at large? I live here, it’s noticeably more hostile to the BAME community and immigrants.

I don't think we are a racist country at all.

The BLM movement has divided people though and created things that were not there in the first place .

Brighton factually.....
I don't think we are a racist country at all.

A very easy thing to say from a safe majority white area like sussex, even more so from a very liberal city like Brighton.
However there are areas in Britain that still hold entrenched views handed down by the older more ignorant generations, this chain needs to be broken at school with education.

This by no means is a dig at just white folks, I have seen first hand in London the racism between all races and religions, even between different african immigrants, some of them hate each other.

We all need to grow up, move on and understand we are all the feckin same, we see the same, we feel love the same, we all fear the same things, it will be a long hard road, and I feel religion has a lot to do with things.

It's a tuffy.

Again, I disagree, if you have empathy and understanding of the issues ethnic minorities undergo every single day, there is no issue.
If you feel your whiteness is being undermined or threatened then you have an issue you need to deal with, just my opinion.

I am not calling you a racist by the way, just observations, and I could well be totally missing the point, but that is how I see it.

appreciate comments but works other way with the argument of leafy white sussex as well . Its easy to have a viewpoint when not right in the centre of any social issues or things that effect your family.

A debate that wont be possible on here but its a very interesting subject

I don't think we are a racist country at all.

The BLM movement has divided people though and created things that were not there in the first place .

I've been saying for years that, although racism definitely exists in this country, I don't think it defines us and I think it's been slowly marginalised as black and ethnic people have become heroes for all kinds of sporting/entertainment reasons and played bigger roles in society more generally (politics, business, academia, medicine, etc etc). Maybe the hardline racists weren't won over but the more casual kind of racism that was a feature of life, probably in most European countries, well into the 80s and 90s has been on the wane.

Recent events do make me wonder if I've been too complacent and blasé about the experiences of black people in this country because racism does still seem to be an everyday problem for many of them.

There was a really good interview on 5Live this morning with two young black footballers, aged 19 and 21 I think. They were watching the England game on Sunday and when those penalties were missed, one had a phone call from his mum urging him to get home safely there and then because she knew exactly what kind of trouble may be awaiting them.

That's a really terrible way for anyone to have to end a night out with their mates – regardless of how genuine the danger was. The fact it is perceived is bad enough.

Great point, i'm sure all moderate, decent conservatives reject the current right wing sect of the Tory party built on racism and division, just a shame we have to wait another 2 years to kick this scum out

2 years? It's almost 3..... Just before euro 2024 in Germany!

Marcus’ mural in Withington was graffitied, but fans have covered up the abuse with encouragement and positive messages, showing love is more powerful than hate.

I thought Rashford would get abuse for taking the worst type of wanky, cocky penalty. I felt hugely sorry for him when I saw the realisation on his face of what he'd done. Having said that, maybe it dawned on him the amount of racist abuse he'd get as a result. But he shouldn't have been put in that position by Southgate. Nor should poor Sancho, a kid who I don't think had touched the ball. Then even worse still, poor Saka a young lad with all the pressure in the world to score his first ever penalty following an anonymous performance in which he looked out of his depth, and who could blame him. I'm so colourblind now that it truly never crossed my mind to acknowledge their colour in my thought process. I just felt so sorry for them. They were the wrong guys for the job and Southgate has blighted them at a young age with the same weight he has had to carry for years. Penalties in a Euro final is for older, more experienced heads. The abuse is appalling whatever their colour. No excuse. Not sure the media platforms can hide from their responsibilities much longer.

The problem with racism, like so many other things in life, is that it is the noisy minority that get heard - so booing the knee, national anthems, abusing celebrities of colour online appears to be seen as a majority thing, when clearly it isn't.

I am afraid you will never get rid of racism in this, or any other country - as simply some people are too bigoted to understand - they're often easy to spot as the ones that say "I'm not racist, but..."

Politicians have a lot to answer for and should be able to look past the ballot box and the possibility of offending a few of their racist supporters - Yes I'm looking at you Priti Patel...!

Also to talk about some of the fault being in the hands of the England manager is no better than saying a woman deserves to be raped because she went out in a short skirt!

Reckon the majority of abuse comes from mugs seeing their online in-play bets go up in smoke. Now THERE'S an area that could do with being beefed up. The Fun Stopped. If indeed it ever started

What an idiot.

I still feel a bit uncomfortable about somebody going to prison and having their entire life ruined for being a complete dick on social media though.

The tvvat is a 52 year old forklift truck driver. F*ck him. Too stupid to learn wisdom unless it's spelled out to him in no uncertain terms :tosser:

"He used social media to publicly vilify these three young men who tried to score for England. When approached by a Facebook friend asking him to remove the grossly offensive content, Best replied: 'It's my profile, I can do what I want.'

As I said, an idiot.

I'm just not sure it's a prison level idiot.
