There will be a decent sell-on in there, and if he's not going to make the first team here then we may as well give him the opportunity to flourish elsewhere.

I'm going to assume he didn't make enough appearances (unless appearances on loan at other teams count, which I assume they don't) to get to that £350k number? So probably not quite as bad as you think.
