There is a slightly serious alternate view to the mockery.

Is it not in Mr Bloom's best interests for our talent to kick on again, after their move away from the Albion?

In the summer we'll be wanting many millions for someone, but that might not be forthcoming if there's doubt about lil Brighton players performing at a 'big club'.
If Caicedo has a good World Cup then his price certainly won't be affected by Cucurella's form.

It's a reasonable overall thought though, that players do well here where they might not elsewhere. Not only the atmosphere generated by a supportive Chairman and senior management team but playing a lot of first team minutes in front of a relatively patient fan base in a club where the team comes before the individual.

I read a lot of guff online after we beat Man U that Caicedo should have gone there, but there's no guarantee they would have started him and he certainly wouldn't have been given time to settle if results didn't pick up.

Ben White is currently answering that question.

Cucu is also currently answering the same question while Biss is shrugging!

White isn't even in the England team...

...oh, my bad.

Yeah that's equally true.

Maybe Premier League clubs will eventually wise up and dig a little deeper into the attributes of their potential signings.
I get the feeling that Ben White was signed for all the right reasons, whereas Cucu wasn't.
I doubt the fact that Cucu has struggled will be held against us. Pep wanted him too, after all.

Biss is a bit more of a concern, it will be interesting to see what happens to him.

White is an excellent player. I think we all know why he is not in the England team.
The England team always consists of the 11 best English players in the country.

To say anything else is lefty woke tofu nonsense.

How many recent moves from the "other 14" to the "Big 6" have actually paid off over the past few seasons.
I know Liverpool used to have success plundering Southampton for their best players, but that is a few years ago.

Ake has hardly cemented a place at Man City, other than on the bench.

A lot of the Big 6 transfers are usually to each other (Stirling, Jesus etc) or the best of the European Leagues.

I think the "PL premium" puts some top clubs off, and I suspect Cucu's transfer may be held up as one that Chelsea seriously overpaid, and may stop other teams being quite so cavalier. There is usually better value abroad, if you are prepared to look. (look at us!)

In hindsight, City's valuation was closer to the mark.

I think the issue is that the “big six” are happy to pay silly money for bench warmers, or at least have a gamble, when the rest of us don’t or can’t pay silly money at all.

But we can - and do - gamble with cheaper players, give them experience and develop them into diamonds.

At top six clubs, a player needs to be the finished article. No learning on the job in the Chelsea team!

Biss is improving game by game at spurs. Fans were impressed with him yesterday. I personally thought he was ok, but once he reaches full Brighton levels for them they will be blown away.

Shame he's playing for a such a defensive dullard.

But not the sort of silly money the top 6 pay. Many of them are obviously not the finished article as proved by Biss and Cuc who have been expensive gambles so far.

I assume Chelsea taking every element of our setup that they can, suggests their approach is to radically change. There was no point in cleaning us out if they plan to continue to pay top dollar for finished articles.

The list of players who struggle to make the step up is pretty long. Maybe the standards of what is expected is higher or the pressure gets to them?

Kalvin Phillips, Harry Maguire, Jack Grealish, Cucurella and Bissouma. All individual stars at their "smaller" clubs but struggling to make an impact. White is different partially because he came into Arsenal when they were at a lower ebb.

I dunno. Could be utter nonsense though, they may just be not as good as we thought

Having watched the Arsenal be Chelsea game, it’s clear that White has been converted into a very effective right back. A very smart and versatile player and worth the money Arsenal paid.
White is so versatile isn't he. He is in total control at right back and could switch to central defence with ease if needed or slot into midfield. He is well worth his £50m.

Cucurella is brilliant in one position, but needs a team around him that understand that. Watching the game yesterday (which I would not usually do) he looked exposed by other players not performing in their roles.

As these comments on the Chelsea chatroom illustrate, he'll run out of time quickly:

"He's decent enough, but we were taken to cleaners value wise."

"Let me tell you this. I'd rather Chilly on 1 leg & a crutch than that whining pussy Cucurella. ....
Running into tackles like a headless chicken, outmuscled in duels, moaning every farking time he gives away a stupid free kick.
60 farking million pounds! Potter and his merry men must have been laughing their farking arses off."

"People in the ground have written him off from what I can tell. Nothing like giving a new player a chance to settle."

Agreed, every time I've seen him play since he left the Albion I've been impressed. I doubt any Arsenal fan begrudges the money spent on him, whereas CuCu... (see shedend)

I don't thinks it's exclusive to #TeamsLikeBrighton. I know it was decades ago, but look at Torres, when he rocked up at Chelsea after being amazing at Liverpool. Or, maybe, Grealish as a more recent example of a player who doesn't live up to their price tag...?

The thing is, these 'big' clubs have so much money they will always be willing to spend to a) show off and b) stop any of their rivals getting a potential diamond.

Edit: I see my points have been covered already. Nothing to see here, move along, etc, etc...
