Did we take too long - whatever that means- over the transfers of Webster, Trossard, Bissouma, Mwepu, Veltman, Lallana, Moder or Maupay ?

I think it’s a fair observation being made. We’ve seen on several occasions over the last few years, the club angling for the best deal possible, which is of course the club’s prerogative. From the outside it can however appear that the club are dragging their feet and it can mean that we lose out on a player. The one that particularly springs to mind considering today’s opponent’s, is Stephen Ward.

Yep. If that’s what the club feel is best then fair enough, but it’s very frustrating for us fans, and becomes easy to point the finger if we don’t get off to a good start in the opening few games.

Villa, it seems, have the exact opposite strategy. They used the Grealish money before that transfer even went through.

My take is our club play a blinder in most of their dealings but have to change up their strategy for striker purchases. You just cannot get away with playing the long game for strikers; it simply and demonstrably does not work.

Recent example is Armstrong to Stains. Ings left the building and was replaced within days. Muzza was on the way out 2 years ago, we are still waiting.,.

As for Cucarella. If we want him, pay the release clause. If not, move on quickly and decisively to the next option.

They signed a striker from the championship who scored on his debut in the PL.

We did the same.

You are literally using saints as a reference to what we should do.......when it's something we did with Maupay.

What do you ACTUALLY want.

Us to stop low-balling striker purchases and actually get on with signing the striker we obviously need

You’re right about Cucurella. We just need to bite the bullet and get this lad ASAP, with Burn injured, we look very light on the left of defence.

As far as a striker goes, Maupay looked great yesterday but beyond him, we appear to be struggling, I still believe that Edouard’s price will drop (from a reported £20m) as it dawns on Celtic that they’ll lose him on a free next year if they don’t take a fee in the next 2 weeks or so. I suspect if we sign him, he’d be available for Brentford at the earliest.

Reported in the paper today that he is after £85,000/week

We don't really know anything about potential transfers, or what the reasons are we have not signed a striker yet. Maybe we are offering too little, maybe the selling club is wanting too much, maybe the players personal terms are too rich, or just doesn't want to come here, maybe it is not obvious that we need another striker, but we are interested if we can get an addition at a fair price.Maybe the problem is every club and players agent thinks we have £50M extra in the budget and is pushing to get a big slice of it.
There is no point holding out on selling your best players unless for high fees, if you are then going to eat up all that extra cash by paying over the odds for new players, who may not work out as well as you hoped, or worse, bringing in a player that is not going to be happy, but couldn't say no to the money.

If he doesn’t lower his sights by probably 50% he won’t be coming here then (or Burnley for that matter). Palace it is then

Sorry, I was replying to the quote about Edouard wage demands, not Cucurella,s, he just wants free Tapas with Bruno

To have the brains to criticise them when they **** up. Too many on here have their heads so far up the club’s leadership’s collective ar$es that they can’t see straight. You included it seems.

Evidence of any low balling ?

Or just something you read on Twitter

Do you not follow the ‘progress’ of our various failed striker acquisition attempts?

Because it was a recent example of a similar sized club signing the striker they needed!
