I’m with you on this - if City perpetually just stump up more cash whenever a club digs their heel in, then they’ll forever be paying over the odds for transfers. If it was a case of us having a figure in mind and Pep being desperate for him, you’d think it would be one of those wrapped up quick just like Arsenal did with White.

Not sure Arsenal was that quick given the multiple bids.

I don't know much about Chelsea's youngsters, so my concern is not to do with his quality, more a concern with the deal. If he has promise, aren't Chlesea likely to want a buyback clause? Would we want to take someone on, coach them through their first year or two in the premier league show they are a star player, and then lose them for peanuts, because Chelsea have a right to buy them? If he doesn't have promise, if Chelsea don't see themselves wanting to buy him once he has proven himself in the premier league, is he good enough to make it worth our while? Wouldn't we be better looking elsewhere for a replacement?
Hence why any kind of swap deal feels unlikely. What’s the motivation for us? We’ve been linked with Colwill and presumably had as much chance of signing him as any other team pre this deal. If the deal is 30million plus Colwill with a buy back or huge sell on clause then that is seriously below our supposed asking price of £50 million.
The only incentive for us would be that we get £30 million plus Colwill without any clauses. Which is very unlikely.

Why do Chelsea want to spend that much on Cucu? They've already got Ben Chilwell

Chelsea's challenge for the league last season collapsed when Chillwell and Reece James got injured. Tuchel's system only works with wing backs and he only had full backs. I guess that he doesn't want to get caught out again. Alonso is rumoured to be off to Barca. They were also trying to buy a left footed CB in Nathan Ake earlier in the summer. Cucu played very well there in a three in the last half dozen or so games of last season.

This. Hardly cause for optimism. And contributes ZERO towards building for the future, assuming we even try to do that anymore. Seems more important to flip a player for a short term profit. Oh well, just keep buying the stupid £55 shirts

Interestingly, the first time Cucurella ever played at LCB for the Albion, was when we were down to the bare bones in central defence, for the game at Stamford Bridge last NY. He was superb - as were the whole side, in outplaying the hosts, and were unfortunate to come away with just a point.

In fact, not only was Cucu excellent defensively, but he even got forward to provide the assist for Wellbeck's late equaliser.

I think we've got to try and get Broja, he's a proven PL striker

6 goals is proven?

The same number as Danny Welbeck from eight more games.
Two less than Neal Maupay, having played one more game.
In EPL games he has scored one more goal and has two assists less than Aaron Connolly, albeit in a dozen less games.

He's a very promising youngster, not yet a proven EPL striker.

Looks like Cuc is off and the look on Pep's face this afternoon will be hilarious if it happens :lolol:

Can't see Colwill being part of it as player 'swaps' are incredibly rare and just adds more complexity to a deal both sides appear to want to get done quickly. That's not to say there can't be another separate deal in the next few days.

Not in Whitechapel
same as welbeck last 2 seasons for us

not that ive even heard of Broja

pretty good for Southampton...imagine how many he'd get leading the line for the expansive blue and white stripes*

*big white H on blue background

Broja is a decent youngster. However he isn’t

A) a ‘proven’ striker. Equal amount of goals to Welbeck in 500 minutes more.
B) Going to come to us

Colwill and £35/40m would be great business. We might as well discuss Havertz or Werner in there, there’s about as much chance as Broja imo (which is 0% fwiw)
