Can’t quite see why there’s a belief that this will happen regardless . Don’t you think it’s now looking pretty unlikely - compared to a few weeks ago. ?
No, because Pep ‘identified’ Cucurella as a key target, and City are petrified of upsetting him, unfortunately I fell they’ll be back. Additionally, their left side struggled at the weekend, which could result in Pep applying more pressure.

For that to be true then they are either willing to pay more and/ or can’t find alternatives and/or Albion are willing to accept a lower fee.
Not sure I’m convinced but fair enough.

At the end of the season Cucurella would often drift in to a CAM/CM position while we were attacking and dictate play from there, quickly converting back to a LWB/LB/CB should we lose possession. This is the kind of thing that gives Guardiola a perpetual stuffy, I'm sure there are few alternatives.

I’m amazed so many people think this is done and dusted. He’ll be gone by the end of the window with Man City stumping up close to 50m.

I’m amazed that there’s a consensus that this will just proceed like the Ben White transfer.
Arsenal will stump up after a few lower bids and that’s that.
This deal looks in real trouble.
im not convinced either. i wouldnt be surprised if it does happen but with city so adamant they wont get close to 50million let alone with the plus they wont want to look like soft touches when it comes to future negotiations

I've seen "looking elsewhere" and "unwilling to pay" in the athletic.
Big difference between "Unwilling" and "Won't pay"
Have there been further developments?
Everything I've seen linked to City so far has not ruled out coming back.
Channels have seemingly been left open (on their side at least)
They need a left back and would be surprised if they will settle for 2nd best.

The ball is in City's court. The only thing stopping the deal, is them saving face.
Unless their FFP position is totally ****ed after paying Haaland's wages.

I think you can also add that since the end if last season they’ve lost Fernandinho and Zinchenko and haven’t added any defensive cover, as far as I know. They definitely need to buy a few defenders, and Cucurella is ideal as he can play LB, LCB and LWB.

I’m with you on this - if City perpetually just stump up more cash whenever a club digs their heel in, then they’ll forever be paying over the odds for transfers. If it was a case of us having a figure in mind and Pep being desperate for him, you’d think it would be one of those wrapped up quick just like Arsenal did with White.

Maybe the wording doesn't match the true meaning, but a 'transfer request' baffles me.
If it is merely a REQUEST, I could see the conversation going something like this:
Cucurella (via a transfer request): Please can I move to a bigger club who will pay me more money?
Club: No, you're ONE year into a multi-year contract and not going anyway, especially to those mugs who think they can buy you for peanuts. Now get back to training, we've got a huge season to prepare for and you're a big part of it.
I don't see how a TR changes City's ability to bid a higher amount. If I was TB and that happened, the asking price would also have gone up £10m....
Also, I would hope/assume that when a player submits a TR there are repercussions, such as forfeiting bonuses, or suchlike.

I'm with him on that. Hayfever sucks. But there are sprays and tablets so there are some alternatives.
I suspect the transfer request will have to be in writing. I believe that if the club sell a player they are likely contractually obliged to make certain payments to him however if they request a transfer then he gives up that right.

The only advantage is when the clubs are close to a deal/price but won't budge.
It enables the selling club to make a bit more by not paying the player a cut.
Increasingly it's used to put pressure on the club to sell.
The buying club will cover the player for any losses in any case.
Just a bit of theatre really.

Still all up in the air. And still rumours and guess-work, smoke and mirrors. £40M bid reported in the Athletic. Suggestions elsewhere that City don't want to go above their valuation of £35M - all of which could be compatible with a £40M bid made up of £35M plus £5M in add-ons. Maybe, maybe not.
As for whether City will be back again - anyone can guess, nobody knows (outside of City anyway). If and when they turn up with a nice new shiny £20 or £30M LB we might breathe easily - at least until after Christmas!
It's been fun looking at Bluemoon this last few days, but I don't think they've got anything new to froth at the mouth about (pretty much the same here TBH!) - all getting a bit boring now!

City regularly spend around £50m on full back targets:
Cancelo - £58m
Mendy - £52m
Walker - £47m
Over the last month or so, they have sold some big talent. They’ve not even been worried about strengthening rivals such as Chelsea or Arsenal. This has been done to fund their incoming business.
They are clearly trying to balance the ‘FFP’ books and had identified a tactic of low-balling Brighton, I suspect that they have only £35m/£40m left to play with before they run into FFP issues.
They might need to sell Ake to Chelsea before they purchase Cucurella now because Tony ain’t changing his tune.
What a mess. Cucu’s agent should never have instructed his client to issue a transfer request without being sure Citeh would pay the fee.
If Citeh really want Cucu, they’ll need to sell some more talent. They might prefer to keep Ake and get themselves someone not quite as good as our Spanish ace.
