What? Are you being deliberately obstinate? I didn’t say double his wages, I suggested a wage increase as he’s proved to be one of our top players. Is that unreasonable?

just trying to understand the logic. He is pretty protected in terms of contract length so his overall value isn't going to shift downwards in 12-18 months. Why pay a bigger premium for the same potential outcome?

In Ben White's case I think he had 1 year left with an additional 1 year option but i stand to be corrected. That was a case of protecting your assets.

Exactly - so he cost Arsenal £50M rather than £10M-£20M

Brighton factually.....
Bluemoon seems quite reasonable at the moment saving their disgust and no belief for Talkshite & Fabrizio Romano

I like this.

"I'm not that bothered by the £50m valuation, as Bloom can set it at whatever he feels is right and is in a good position regarding contract years left. I don't think the examples you give are worth comparing though, as at the point of sale"
&
"Scored his only league goal against United. Take my money!"

Because when Cucu came he was a young player on probably a modest wage. Nobody could foresee what an amazing success he’d be and as we unearthed an absolute gem his wages should reflect that and be brought in line with our higher earners. It’s hardly a risk as his stock and value is only going to increase ala Ben White

It's not unreasonable to offer him a better wage as a top performer.
We have done similar with plenty of other players.

It would make sense in the scenario, where we have blocked a move that would double his wages.
His agent would almost certainly come back to us to say, so if you won't sell him because he's worth £60m to you, then pony up on the wages and pay him accordingly.

precisely. protecting your assets. No need to do so with Cucu who has a lengthy contract and will go for the same if not more regardless of wage increase on the club.

its all pointless discussion as City will meet the asking price and Cucu will get his move.

Amongst the crap on Blue Moon, there are one or two that make me smile, for instance...

"…. I’m so f***ing glad the average supporter on this thread is nowhere near our ****ing management team. A large proportion of you couldn’t negotiate yourselves a hardon if you swallowed a bottle of viagra at a Victoria’s Secret convention."

I'll be really sad if he goes this window. I was hoping for one more season.

If he does go, I hope we only sale him if the price is 50+

I hate Pep with a vengance, he is such a bad loser, the way he behaved towards our Graham when Graham celebrated one of our goals against them was disgusting, I mean it's not like he never celebrates any of the goals his team score. Hipocrate!

But your saying Cucu won’t sign a new deal as it’ll piss off his future employers, but then saying Ben White did despite could have been available to Arsenal when we went for a lot less if he hadn’t have signed that deal

I did yes, but thats not my point because I don;t think we will get to that point.

Im saying the club do not need to do similar this time due to contract length. It makes no business sense.

I agree with this (big) BUT, they are clearly going to drag this out well into August, maybe to the last day of the window. That is not going to do Potter, our club or fan base any favours. We’re already missing out on LB replacements (Bassey & Tagliafico etc), I hope we don’t end up with March & Clarke as LB/LWB/LCB cover if we leave it too late to replace.

Club will up his wages if he stays I reckon…..completely normal thing to do (not just in football). May be no ‘need’ from a contractual or legal perspective but club would likely see it as the right thing to do - very much doubt his current wages reflects his true value in the market.

Well it depends doesn’t it. You can guarantee if we do turn down £50M bids, the agent will be back saying you need to pay him what he’s worth then …

If Man City don’t stump up the fee we want and move on to other targets then it’s pretty much guaranteed Cucu will sign an improved deal. IMO like.

don't disagree. If it maintains his levels then do it but that is not guaranteed. We shouldn't proactively look to do this. Pay 20-30K extra each week for 18 months to get the same transfer fee that would be offer if we didn't offer new wages is simply throwing money at something for no reason.
