I agree on the asking price but the profit if we sold him for 50m and bought a replacement for 20m would be 30m. With 50m you'd be getting your original money back(the 15.5m paid for Cucu) plus a profit of 34.5 million. If you bought a replacement for 20m you'd then be spending the original 15.5m again plus 4.5m from the profit leaving you still 30m up.

I'd still hold out for 60m though. They've paid it before for defenders and they will pay it again so why not to us?

Doesn’t quite work like that from an accounting perspective though does it ? The profit will be greater, because the fee we paid is amortised (written off) over the contract length, so profit is higher than the simple difference between what we paid and what we’d get in a sale (in the Bissouma case this means the sale proceeds will work out as mostly profit)

We need a DULLARD to explain it properly, I could be wrong.

Reports today suggesting City are looking at Ait-Nouri of Wolves as an alternative.

All part of he game, innit? 'Look Brighton, Cucurella isn't the only LB we're interested in - try to charge us too much and we've plenty of other choices!' Same as the bigging up of McAtee to be someone we'll be so pleased to borrow for a year that we'll knock chunks off the price for Cucurella.

You’re right. A player bought for 20m counts as a 20m asset and that value only gets deducted from the annual profit as his contract runs down.

Cucurella is currently a 12m asset (15m less one season’s worth of amortisation in FY 21/22) so if we sold for 50m profit on him would show as 38m in the 22/23 accounts.

That would only work if we wanted to sell him wouldn’t it?

I'm going to be honest and say I have no idea! I have very little(basicially no) understanding of amortisation. However, if the profit is greater than the 30m I thought then that's even better. Especially when he goes for 60!

Would love it if Bloom went full "White to Leeds" mode. And just set a ridiculous price like 70 and just holds the line. Leeds cried and screamed of entitlement then bottled out, Arse tried all the games but still buckled and paid in the end.

Dear Manchester City,

I'd strongly suggest you move quickly for Ait-Nouri whilst the opportunity still exists unless and only unless you are ready to pay our non negotiable valuation.

If not we look forward to Welcoming you and Ait-Nouri to the Amex nest season.

Love Tone

I take your point, but not entirely. They could still be playing the "Look, if you can't squeeze £50M for him out of the wealthiest club in the world (give or take) you've got no chance of getting £50M for him anywhere else - so why not take our £35M plus McAtee on loan for a season?"

Will that work? Personally I don't thhink so, but it won't stop them trying to reduce the price by any means they can. If he has another brilliant season in the PL and a stellar world cup which has the whole world drooling over him, Citeh will probably wish they had coughed up £50 or £60M for him - on the other hand, if he does his ACL in September .........................

Also rumours suggest that Getafe have a 20% sell on, so that needs to be factored in too.

I've not seen that rumour and I'm not sure there would be a sell on as we paid the release fee on his contract so wouldn't have needed to sweeten the deal with Getafe by throwing in extras.

If Man City look like they are going elsewhere, and Cucurella thinks he is going to miss out on quadrupled wages, CL football and likely a PL winners medal though, he might transfer request to help push a deal through, if he really wants it.

That didn’t work for Stephens

The lad's only 23 (okay 24 next month). He's got all the time in the world, as does the club. Man City can pay the asking price now - or pay more later. Pure seller's market for this player. Club's worst crime IMHO would be to sell the player cheaply

That seems one hell of a sell on, that's 10m on 50m transfer ???

As I said above I don’t think there would be a sell on because we paid his release fee.

If there is then normally any sell on percentage is only paid on the profit, not the entire transfer fee. So if we paid £15 million for Cucurella and sold him for £50 million then Getafe would get £7 million based on a 20% clause.

This bloke is so full of shit and has changed his ITK information every day or 2. It’s quite amusing to look back on his tweets saying deal has been done over last 4 weeks. What’s amazing is that he has a load of followers that think he’s credible.

What on earth has a supposed gentleman’s agreement got to do with it?! If they bid enough for Tony, he’ll accept. If they don’t, he won’t.

Yeah, I can see TB making a “gentleman’s agreement” to sell our player of the season. WTF is he on about? City are going to have to offer well over the top and a gentlemen’s agreement is very unlikely to come into the equation.

Danny Levy ignored Kane's bleating about a gentlemen's agreement.

I'd expect TB to be similarly objective in raising £50m plus in cash, not reduced by add-ons or parts swaps for inadequate players.

Citeh's owned by a petro-state who swerve FFP/Sustainability laws, they can afford it.

Lol. Gentlemens agreement, between a hard nosed businessman (TB) and a bunch of crooks. Yea right. Talking out his arse.
