Just so everybody knows, I'm ready and poised to change the thread title to Marc Cucurella *SINGS on a five-year contract* but ****s off to City after one.

If you want some practise the Caicedo thread title needs back dating.

That's getting right on my tits.

Solly gets dogs abuse from certain fans regardless. He can handle it.
He will do a good job, undoubtedly.

Fortunately our management understand that there is more to being successful, than continually improving the quality of individual players.
we can'r replace Cucu and Biss, they are exceptional talents.

Sorry but I think you wrong on both counts. March is not and never will be a LB/LWB he might stand in when needed during a game but that's it.

Why can't we replace Cucurella and Bissouma?

Our recruitment team got both of them, they didn't knock on the door one day asking for a trial. Yes, they are both highly talented but there's others out there waiting for their chance, we need to just find them. Our record has been pretty good so far.

Getting a bit hacked off with posters saying "If City want him there's nothing we can do"

That's bollox. Ask Wilf Zaha about how player contracts work.

If City want him and are prepared to meet our valuation, then a deal will be done.
Tony won't strike a deal that isn't advantageous to us.

If City (any Champs League club) there's nothing the Albion can do because that's the entire business model in a nutshell.

If Wolves, Leicester Villa et al want an Albion first team regular you'd see a very different approach from the club.

Reality is if Man City want him there isn’t really much we can do, just get the best price we possibly can, the good thing is we know we won’t be low balled, he has a long contract so at least £50m should be his value to us AND more importantly to Man City who need a LB.

Would be gutting to see him leave but realistically this was always going to happen if the club progressed into being a consistent premier league team, our best players will eventually be vultured off for big bucks, not much we can do about it.

This is unfortunately true.

If his reps have spoken to Citeh as highlighted, they're going to have a good steer of what Cities contract and pay offer will be, we wont be able to compete and players are a long time retired.

Plus genuine chance of silverware, champions league football and the cherry on the icing, the chance of a Spain call up in a world cup year, you cant begrudge Marc being interested.

of course it will hinge on Citeh meeting Blooms valuation, but that wont be for a lack of funds only desire and their valuation.

We cant offer Marc the same chances of silverware, champions league, contract and playing for City can only help his international aspirations.

Gutting, as hes a brilliant player and bloke, but Marc does need to balance being a big fish and star player in a smaller pond and guaranteed starter versus the small fish in a very big pond and cetainly not guaranteed to start every week in peps rotating system.

Clutching at straws!

stick Tariq on the left, leave veltman on the right. Pocket the 60-80m or spend elsewhere.

I will leave it to Tony to sort out what is and isn’t acceptable in financial terms. I have no problem in players moving onwards and upwards when the time is right, but I am a little disappointed that a player can deem it acceptable to move on after just one season having just signed a four year deal.

A player who loved scoring his first goal so much, a player who both the fans and media alike think has more to offer, a player.who enjoys the ‘ Spanish’ side of our club. I’m sure he will go at some point, but I am hoping for just one more season.

Cucurella had only permanently signed for Getafe 1 year before we bought him! And our club record Webster has only been at Bristol City for a year… works both ways

Opinions innit.
Is March as good as Cucu? No, he isn't.
But he made the place his own when he was asked to play LWB.

In regards to replacements, the point I failed to make, was it will be unlikely that there is a direct replacement available, to walk straight into the club.
Our recruitment is far more successful at bringing prospects in and developing them.

Indeed opinions but he made the position his at the time due to the fact we didn't have anyone else and made it a priority to replace him. If Cucurella goes someone will come in to replace him, I think we will agree on that.

Cucurella came straight into the team.

If they want Cucu and are willing to pay the fee we will accept, which I’m sure they will be, then there is nothing we can do, we could force him to stay but what sense would it make? Let’s say they offer is 60m, player gets probably quadruple his wages, club makes a big profit OR force a probably unhappy player to stay and risk never getting anywhere near that value again.

Unfortunately the pulling power City have means we are powerless here really, it’s delusional to think otherwise, yes we could force a player who wants to leave to stay but that’s not the way the club is going, as Bissouma and Whites deals prove.

The problem with March playing LWB is that he's filling in, he's not naturally a defensive player. And I have to stress, this isn't me putting him down, because I think hes a good player and I think his versatility is excellent. If you need him to play in that role for the odd game to cover suspension or inury great, but if you ask him to play there for extended periods it costs us. In my opinion thats because he's not a natural defender he gives away too many cheap free kicks and at this level the margins are so fine that you end up dropping points because of it. In the odd game here or there you can probably absorb it, but if he were to play there all season I think it would be a backward step for the team. Like I say, I know that sounds like I'm having a pop at him which I'm really not, I just think his best position is higher up the pitch. And I don't think its any coincidence that the moment we brought in a specialist left wing back in Cucurella, the team looked so much more balanced and ended up with our highest ever finish.

I said £65m, so a £50m profit. If we get £65m then it would be hard to turn it down I think. A £50m profit in one year is a heck of a return. Bear in mind we probably used some of the £50m from the White sale to buy Cucurella. White cost nothing so £15m of a £50m profit on White to make a further £50m profit.
No wonder Tony Bloom has a few quid!

It’s all rather incidental these days. We are richer than them and they are richer than us. Depending where in the trophic you lie, you win some and you lose some. Which is why Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea finished top 3 in 2023. Sorry, I meant 2022. Or did I?!
