Given its cost Tony Bloom about £500M to get us to where we are now, I’d not question his ambition for wanting to plug some pretty heavy and significant losses that we have seen in the last few years

I’d imagine TB would have rather have held onto Cucurella.

Good bit of buisness if true.
If he had to go then let him go to the highest bidder.
Personal feels gone when it gets to forcing a move so just cash in.
He may have preferred City, but who gives.
Maximum return, well done Tony.

who knows how the holes in the squad will reflect on the outcome , we could be in shit street and be relegated or we may just push on now we are armed better attacking wise.

The timing is crap , leaves us with limited LB options which is not ideal any league but likely to be exposed Prem. LWB set up we can get away with it for a few games.

Need to spend out on a LWB though as otherwise we are walking a tightrope hoping against injuries.

If we are sensible then we can improve the squad nicely with investment. Got to trust the club on this one.

Man U away is a free hit.

We really need these new guys to be very very good. I imagine if we start badly then there will be a few people getting vocal. What can we do though. we cant compete with wages or attracting players ahead of the bigger clubs so this is our model. Its a risk as you are only ever a couple of bad windows from being a bottom 3 side but without throwing money after money then thats where we are at. At least we are higher up the pecking order so can attract other clubs best players.

A great business deal. Playing wise we'll see and can only truley judge after the window.

Roll on Sunday

**** me. Brighton showing a lack of ambition. The club that went from playing in front of 1,000 people at home games 70 miles away from Brighton to finishing 9th in the Premier League and having some of the biggest teams on the planet scrapping over paying us £50 million for our players in less than 25 years. We've probably shown more ambition than any other football club in the country.

You are just another short-term thinker who doesn't understand the model and why it works, and will continue to work.

This.

The wE hAveN't SINGED a rEPLaCEMeNt for BiSs are out and about completely failing to understand we signed 2 last year in Moises and Mwepu. Most of our signings will be more of the same - some bloke from a random country playing in a random league that you probably never knew existed, most likely for development. Cucarella was the exception being a player signed ready for the first team. In the main we've stopped doing that.

Anyone expecting a 30 Million quid LWB to appear that they've heard of because he's good on FIFA is likely going to be dissapointed. Solly - in the main - will fill that position next season and he was my POTS before he got injured at Liverpool in that role in the covid season. MC was better but he could be world class and is probably the best in that position we've ever had (My dad would pipe up Mark Lawrenson at this point)

Last point. A quality striker (and potentially we've signed 2 this window) and LWB aside there are no obvious areas of the side that need supplementing or an upgrade in any case.

There are people, some of whom post on NSC, who are disgusted that we have 'become' a selling club, with no chance of ever winning the EPL, and they are 'that close' to turning their back on The Albion, a club with no ambition.

This just demonstrates, no matter the team, no matter how fair and reasonable the fanbase is, every club has its share of complete and utter Twats

Rinsed Chelsea or not, we got an amount that we really couldn't have turned down and we showed once again that we won't stand in a player's way. I go back to a decision many years ago not to sell Steve Penney to Arsenal, which we regretted when he got injured and was never the same. If Cucurella had stayed and had a less effective season or got injured, we would be thinking the same. As it is, we raised his profile to such a level that a top-four club paid us a record fee for a full-back.

Whilst I am disappointed to lose Cucu, and as much as I despise the “big 6”, at least Chelsea have gone about this in the right way. They’ve offered sensible money to get the deal done and, if the rumours of up to £64m are true, that is exceptionally good negotiating from TB. I don’t know much about Colwill but hopefully he lives up to the hype. I believe we have enough attacking cover on the left with Trossard, March and Mitoma but am a little concerned about the defensive situation. At the very least, at least the club knows where we stand and can ,I’ve forwards planning without him. Buying a replacement in this window I suspect is unlikely as every will know we have pushing £100m from the sale of Cucu and Biss. Hopefully we can get through til Januaryand look to get another bargain then.

Yes, but it also shows a lack of ambition to a degree because, despite the stupid amount of money coming our way, it will cost us league placings because Cucc was probably the difference last season and is probably the best LWB in the country.

And sure as day leads to night, the truth lies somewhere between these two comments.

Lack of ambition is demonstrably not the case in TBs modus operandi, but, every team can always look to strengthen no matter what they last achieved. To me a left side defensive/attack minded player is the obvious position right now, SM can do a job but he is a step down from Cucurella. After that we could still improve up front as our long term forwards are not as good as we would like, and our most likely prolific forward has a lot to prove at this level. Then we could look at the midfield etc etc and onwards, you can never rest on your laurels.

Still 'close to a deal in excess of £52M' according to Sky Sports News (9.55 a.m. Friday).

Andy Naylor and others have tweeted quite a lot this morning about the deal being pretty much done for £56m upfront and £7m in add ons. & a season loan to us for Levi Colwill.

Argus now also saying “more than £60m”.

Agreed, but surely he's on some kind of percentage?
I assumed a higher sale price would get him a higher cut?
Yeah maybe. I wonder if agent contracts are fairly standard in that regard, or vary a lot between agents. Someone here probably has a good idea.

Hang on a minute? When this is confirmed, won’t Cucu be the most expensive left back of all time?

The highest fee I can find is 57.5 euros for Mendy ???

But please remember, we are not financial investment company in the City of London, we are a community football club in Sussex. A football club with a huge hole in the squad. We have no left back in the current squad.

I’ll celebrate this deal once Cucu has been replaced. The loan-child Colwill is not the answer by the way (for now).

Every football club is a business these days. It's naive to think they aren't. An actually 'community football club in Sussex', doesn't sell its assets for multiple millions of pounds, as BHAFC seemingly does now on a semi-regular basis.

You know the window's still open, right? I would be amazed if negotiations with potential replacements aren't already underway...
