There will be an out pouring of grief in Argentina like never before. In my opinion the Argies are without doubt the world's most passionate football supporters.

On a recent radio programme I recall the pundits describing a skill that they had only ever seen Maradona perform. He used to kick the ball very, very high and then get under it and volley it back into the air several times in a row. They all agreed that no one else had mastered that skill.

My only surprise about his death is that he managed to last until 2020. He was the greatest player I ever saw.

Our boy will be desperate to be fit enough to play, on Saturday.

I can't believe this news
Absolute football genius on the park and greatest player ever
What magic he brought to every team he played for
I think I have liked iconic teams like Barcelona and Napoli mainly because of him
We love football because of players like Maradona
England have never produced anything half as good

Terrible human being, fantastic footballer. Can’t in all good conscience say I’ll miss him but as a footballing icon, he will always be remembered.

The quarter final in 1986 was the only day I wish VAR was being used.
Fantastic player though and a character as well off the pitch RIP

I was barely 1 when the 86 WC was held, so i don't have any memories of watching him at the peak of his powers, but it doesn't take much to be able to read and watch the impact he had on world football. You don't become a big name and prove your worth in Italy, Spain and Argentina without being a little bit good.

Clearly a flawed human being with demons that he tried to deal with through drink & drugs, but his on-field reputation cannot be overstated. RIP.

And Maradona wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes in the modern game.

Disagree with that. He would of scored twice as many with the protection players get these days.

Watch a montage of him at Napoli, in 90% of the clips opponents are trying to break his legs. An absolute genius.

Cheating Scumbag, won't be missed by me. Not fit to clean Pele's Boots.

I assume this is in reference to hand of God? If so I never really got the anger over this. Players cheat all over the pitch and I have only ever seen it as just another one that got away with it. How is it different to diving, feigning injury, taking a forward out if you are last man etc etc
