Mandarins v Satsuma

Nothing like a decent Clementine but the trouble is that they are soooo unpredictable. One is easy peel and sweet, the next one from the bag needs a pickaxe to peel and is either dry or sour or both.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
Is it just me that scrapes the pitch off the peel (using teeth)? I also sometimes nibble at the peel despite scare stories of beetle dung being used to bring on a shine.

I look forward to the legal act coming in to force allowing/encouraging/ensuring odd shaped fruit to hit the stores (I can't remember the exact act).

Don't they crop twice a year in Spain like the normal Valencian oranges?

To be honest i don't really know, i'm pretty much at the limit of satsuma knowledge :) It may be something to do with satsumas coping with colder weather, maybe they prefer growing in the colder months
