Mandarins v Satsuma

Now everybody knows that the Satsuma is VASTLY superior. It's not even close. Mandarins are bitter, trickier to peel and have pips. Satsuma tick all the boxes, right down to the easy peel puffy skin.

So which COCK decided that all supermarkets should only ever have a ton of mandarins on sale, and bugger all satsumas.

It's an OUTRAGE.

Think you'll find it hard to find anyone to disagree with you on that one. Neither can hold a candle, however, to the mighty BLOOD ORANGE.

The last few times I've been in a supermarket I haven't found any satsumas. Stuck with clementines, mandarins and oranges. Went for clementines and yesterday was just a complete mess. Ended up hacking at the skin with a knife. I miss satsumas

Clementines are EVERY BIT as shit as mandarins. In fact, what is the difference?

No idea. I've just gone to try another one and discovered they are actually TANGERINES, not CLEMENTINES. I have tried a few from the bag and can not even begin to start to peel them with my fingers. Looks like another messy hack with a knife is required. Disgrace

Well firstly satsumas are mandarins just a different subset. Secondly satsumas are in season around october to december whereas your mandarins are november to january so its unlikely you'll get many satsumas after christmas and even mandarins will be less available.

Well I never, fruit has seasons. Who'd have thought it?

Don't they crop twice a year in Spain like the normal Valencian oranges?

Satsumas for me, every time.

In fact, I was looking at a satsuma AND an apple on my desk just now, wondering which one to eat on the way home.

In honour of this thread, I'll go for the satsuma...!!

Love the Boosh graphic (Tony something?). Both mandarins and satsumas taste like an unwashed and very sour baboon's arse - Clementines are the only orange citrus fruit worth eating imho.
