Yes United played well in that second half, and got a bit lucky with their 2nd goal but its all about game management again for me. A draw would have been a very handy result. After 80 minutes gone with it being 1-1, and us under pressure surely the team should be thinking we might still be able to nick a counter attack goal here but priority is to hold onto the point by keeping tight defensive formation & make it so any United goal would have to come from a 30 yard smash or a brilliant bit of play & not get undone by leaving Pogba in space in our box. I know its crap tactics to park the bus but there are times for it. Sometimes we're just too blinded by going for the 3 points that it means we forget the value of the 1 point. We could be well clear of the relegation battle if we'd had the right mentality to see out games like this.

We’re tied for the most draws in the league as it is. We’d be well clear of the relegation battle if we’d turned a few of those 1 points into 3, don’t you think?

To be fair to us, the form table clearly shows we have become better at game management. Still a way to go, though.
And also, they didn't really create much despite being the better team in the second half (which was always likely to happen after the first half; they are second for a reason). It took a pretty fluke goal to beat us being a shot come cross that found its way to Greenwood what with our defenders getting in position to block the shot

O k , we lost one.. We are never going to win every week in this league. That said, we played well , scored a goal , were denied a real penalty.
Man U have world class players and we matched them , almost.....
onwards and upwards...

The reality is that teams like Utd can play very poorly but still get results, because they have several individuals who can do something special, or something clinical in a single moment to completely sway a result their way. And when they have all the possession in the 2nd half, its only a matter of time before they catch a break.

Man U were bang average, but won the game because they have someone who is lightning quick and an utterly ruthless finisher, and they also got a stroke of luck for the winner from Pogba's fluffed volley. Its why they're 2nd in the table. They've been doing it all season - not playing well, but doing enough to grind out the points. We were simply the latest victims of that, they've done it all year against much better teams than BHA.

Good post.

Another game of two halves from us but we are down the bare bones. There's not a lot Potter can do to change things at the moment. But look at the players lining up against us. Pogba, Fernandes and Rashford to name but three. Not a huge surprise that they scored more in the half they "won" than we did in our best half.

Always a free hit after Villa won. Hopefully Burn and Webster back for the next one and the option to return to four or five at the back.

First half we were fantastic. Defended in such numbers broke. When we could. Showed quality. Scored. Came very close to getting a second.

Second half United showed why they’re second in the league. We couldn’t keep up the intensity we showed in the first half. How the hell that wasn’t a penalty though is beyond me. And the “check” they did took all of 10 seconds didn’t it?

Overall I don’t think we can complain. A draw would have been fair but we were beaten by the better team over 90 mins.

Brilliant first half but keeping for up for the whole match is a big ask. Manure have 2 or 3 really good players, some clinical finishing and the usual favourable big club decisions did us in

Still optimistic we should be OK

Problem is we've been playing well for most of the season and yet still find ourselves in a relegation struggle.

Because with regard to offensive players particularly, our recruitment has been poor. Goals win games, not chances or pretty passing around the halfway line - this has not changed in the 45 plus years I have played, coached and watched football.

Goes back to our discussion earlier in the season, IMO we have failed in this area with our purchases.

We are a very watchable side, play nice stuff, but struggle where it matters. I believe we are one/two purchases away from being a top 10 team.....

Edit - at the time of our discussion Trossard was playing really poorly, but think he has found his feet at this level again.

We were 17/4 for a reason.

United are 2nd in the League

We tired later on after a decent first half

I genuinely think we can get something from the Everton game

I actually took that defeat with a resigned shrug, I didn’t rant like I normally would at the nailed on the penalty or the fact that United players were allowed to foul with impunity, without getting booked. For 10 mins we looked like we’d be over run and then turned in a brilliant 35 mins.

That game turned on the penalty not being given and United’s top of the table luck.

How can I be gutted when I just watched Albion run United so close at Old Trafford?

I was really disappointed with the result, we deserved at least a draw.

We are too good to go down, no guarantee that we won’t

I am bloody loving this season so far

Oh and such a shame that Biss won’t be with us next season, he is an absolute joy to watch. So much time on the ball in tight spaces, the sign of a great player imo. I’m going to enjoy him for the short time that he has left with us

agreed apart from Biss being off........if he's going then it has to be for top dollar and i can't see that with most of the top teams in England &Europe pleading poverty.

I do? Hardly. Have a look through my post history.

1 or 2 comments out of 7k. Well it seems to be ok for others to make personal attacks, certainly had more than a few against me.

I wasn’t intending to comment on the frequency of you abusing other posters, simply the hypocrisy of very frequently calling others out for doing so and then doing it yourself. It rather weakens your case if you’re prepared to do the very thing you object to others doing, irrespective of how frequently you do so, imo.

Played well for 2 seasons and have steadfastly remained bottom 5 for 99% of that time.

In that time palace started poorly, and have regressed from there, yet have maintained their midtable comfort zone.

To be fair, he/she does actually call people idiots/buffoons with great regularity. Plays the victim card excellently though.

Mental toughness?

They grind out wins and take their chances.

I think for me it’s more the contrasting styles of play.

If that were Palace last night, the ball from Veltman isn’t a delicate, precise pitching wedge type of ball into a centre forwards up against their best player in the air.

It’s a ball played deep into the United final third, probably picked up by their goal keeper. At that point Palace have 11 behind the ball and no damage done.

Instead Maguire easily wins the header and when Veltman can’t keep the ball, instead of United having the ball deep in their own half with 11 to break down, they have the ball in our final third and have taken 6 or 7 of our players out of the game.

It’s the way we play, so I’m not criticising, but that’s what I see as the main difference.

Palace play with ultra caution, we play a more expansive style which can work, but can also leave you vulnerable.

Fair enough. Personal attacks seem to be tolerated here (forgive me, I don’t seem to recall you stepping in for any of the abuse I’ve taken of late), so let’s just say I respond in kind. Going with the flow as others say I should do.

If you don't like it, then why should you do it? It doesn't make any sense.

Another result consistent with the rest of the season.

If doesn't make any difference if the team played well - they dominated, led and then lost - the soft underbelly again.

Hopefully it doesn't lead to a run of similar results.

A certain amount of robust to-ing and fro-ing is certainly tolerated - it’s a forum dominated by adults. None of what I seen directed at you (and I’ve seen a lot, due to the number of posts you report) come close to causing me to press the ‘infract’ button. Neither did your abusive post - which is why I didn’t infract you.

I’m glad you’ve decided to ‘go with the flow’. I look forward to seeing far fewer reported posts by you, and less focus in threads on such matters. To do otherwise would be hypocritical and invite accusations of trolling.
