[Albion] Managers singling out players for criticism

The weird thing is, the Aussie growler must've seen him in training to pick him for the team (I've no idea if he was starting or he came off the bench, such is my disinterest in Spuds), so he must've been doing SOMETHING right. So why then play so shite in the game?

De Zerbi frequently shared his opinions. Not really in this direct and extreme fashion though.

Maybe 5% of all people respond well to that and gain more motivation from it etc. In most cases it looks and is desperate however.

Perhaps he feels he has nothing to lose. Worst case the shite player hates his manager and wants to leave in January.

Either way its a sign Ange is getting really frustrated about Tottenham in general. High expectations but a rather poor squad compared to top 4.

dont really see why not, as long as the manager has said those things (probably stronger) to the player directly. we publically call out people in other walks of life when they aren't performing as expected. why should football players live in a "keep it in the dressing room" bubble?

Fans aren’t blind we watch the same game the coach does.
Coaches should stop sugar coating these overpaid privileged pros if they aren’t busting a gut for the shirt.
If anyone thought the Albion busted a gut last Sunday they are deluded. Disgraceful performance.
Overall it was a decent performance, including two very good goals. It was the last few minutes which messed it up.

99% of your comments on here are deluded.

I put the other 1% down to you just being a nause.

RDZ on Baleba, maybe? I think he had a 'pop' at someone else, although maybe it wasn't as blatant...
Gilmour, wasn’t it?

He really didn’t seem to like Baleba though. It was like he was unhappy with him as a transfer so took it out on the player himself.

Do we? I can’t speak for everybody in a management position at work, but I wouldn’t dream of calling out someone I manage in any way other than taking to them individually and confidentially.

RDZ was always doing it. He said Solly March wasn't scoring enough and he responded to it, he criticised Trosards attitude who went on to prove him right.

Perhaps it was like Admiral Byng. They shoot one now and then "pour encourager les autres". Werner may already be a lost cause and this was an attempt to stop any of the youngsters going the same way.

Stan Ternent once subbed three players at half time for Burnley (he said afterwards he was tempted to take four off and play with 10 men) and effectively sacked them all in his post-match interview. He said that none of the four would play for Burnley again. (One of them did play a reserve game.) Steve Blatherwick went on to have a decent career afterwards.

"He wasn’t playing at anywhere near the level he should be. Timo's first-half performance was not acceptable to me. I told Timo that he's a German international, that I need everyone to be trying to give their best and this wasn’t an acceptable example. I expect a lot more from the senior guys."

Can you recall an Albion manager singling a player out like this?

Should Albion managers do this?

I think I prefer this stuff to be handled out of the public eye.
It was totally out of order.

I'd be very concerned if a Brighton manager did that.

I can't imagine Levy and chums will be happy ....

Anyway, Timmy was utter shite at Chelsea so it is hardly a surprise he'd flop at Spuds.

People.....
