I would expect that a short list exists and that they will be contacted as soon as the Poyet situation allows.

Hopefully we would appoint a new manager within a week of this process.

Barber and Bloom are both business men. They will have comprehensive succession plans in place for all key members of staff long before anything ever blew up.

Although it seems we can't, but can someone confirm w. Ather a manager can be appointed whilst the Poyet saga continues.

Is it just the financial implications that make it unlikely or is it a legal one.

I suspect it is both and no doubt this case is being watched by most other clubs as FFP becomes their reality also.

I think The Albion could be the test case when it comes to getting rid of a manager within the FFP framework. Clubs like Blackburn will not be able to go through several managers in one season without it having an impact on their FFP compliance. I have no doubt that The Albion have no desire to have a transfer embargo put on them for non compliance and I'm also pretty sure that they don't want any fines helping rivals. This could well be the case that ends the existing 'by mutual consent' removal of managers because large payoffs will mean cutbacks elsewhere on the playing side. We might even see 'normal' employment laws as part of football in the not too distant future.

We may not like what is going on right now but The Albion could well be leading the way into a new era for football. FFP is clearly at the heart of this case and TB knows that a £2.5 Million payoff to Poyet will set us back much further than having no manager for a few weeks. £2.5 Million is a huge amount to find, as we are seeing from the layoffs going on to get losses down so any compensation payouts to Poyet can only come from the playing budget. Season Ticket prices are at their maximum right now so the club can't put prices up to pay off managers.

I would be very surprised if other clubs aren't offering advice because recent seasons have shown that approximately 40+ of them will be going through similar processes this season. No evidence of this whatsoever but they all have, or will have, common ground on this matter sooner or later. I believe FFP is going to be good for football fans-hope so anyway.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. We are caught in a clubs vs LMA showdown because of FFP.

However, if Gus is to be dismissed, then we can at least start the preparation for next season, and this can run on behind the scenes for months / years.

i think thats exactly what we are seeing here already, which is why its so alien to everyone. but it sounds just like employment disputes are conducted normally, with maneuverings from both sides, the employer tightlipped and the employee's representitives giving carefully framed statements to portray a harsh managment. I think the emphasis on FFP is overplayed, there is also a matter of process and indeed principle if a breach has occured.

Isn't Charlie suspended? When will his situation get resolved?

In the current frenzy over Gus's situation Charlie has been kind of overlooked. Otherwise I could have seen Tanno and Charlie or maybe Charlie alone having a caretaker role until the situation reaches a point where the Albion can legally install a new manager.

However I'm not sure that Charlie is management material at Championship / Prem level. He isn't daft but strikes me that his talents at this stage are more as being the first point of contact with the players. In the medium / long term I could see Charlie managing at Lge 1 / 2 level. Of course if he becomes a casualty of the Gus situation or other matter then it may affect his future prospects.

I would imagine, as soon as TB realised that things were not going to get sorted such that GP stayed, that he would have started thinking about the new man, and presumably doing something about it. Pure speculation on my part, so I may get banned for that. It seems rather inconceivable that he has no plan.

Very much this.

With hindsight (isn't it a wonderful thing!) this has been brewing for months. It's inconceivable that the club haven't been organising behind the scenes to replace a manager who had been increasingly distancing himself from his employer, the players and the fans.

How people (like the OP) can think that a man who is willing to invest £150 million in the club would leave the decision of who manages the team to the outcome of a hearing that has an uncertain outcome is just incredible. TB knows what the result will be and he knows who will manage next year.

Clubs continually scout players, to take the work of other contracted players.
