Funny when shit like that happens but I've experienced people doing grim and one incredibly grim action after works Christmas do.I think office/works dos are brilliant. An absolute guarantee that someone will disgrace themselves in spectacular fashion. One particular outstanding example of this was one young chap, who had recently joined, was completely pissed and decided to have a pop at the sales director. He staggered over to the director and loudly announced “Mr. ————, you’re a f***ing c*** and I f***ing hate you!” And on that note our young man collapsed to the floor dead to the world. Marvellous!!
P.S. The junior employee was never seen again.
I'm in a very similar situation. I've just had my second anniversary at my current role. When I joined it was fully remote then they got an office at one of those We Work places and it was optional to go in. Nobody did. So they got a smaller one but still no one went in. I think I went to the bigger office 3 or 4 times in 6 months and the smaller one once and that was only because I was meeting a pal for lunch. The times I did go out for drinks with people all we did was spend the evening talking about work because that is pretty much all we had in common.Since Covid i now never have to go to the office. I started a new job July 2021 and i have never met anyone face to face. This is a dream for me. No pointless London commute. I have enough friends that i already find hard to make time for. I don't want to waste time with idle chit chat with some work people i never see or hardly chat to.
I have done all the work socialising in my life... its for people in their 20s maybe 30s.
The work do, is always a silent dread for me.
I'm a natural introvert and the idea of it always causes me varying levels of anxiety.
As I have got older, they always tend to be far more pleasant than I expect, but I would still rather spend the time with my family instead.
Yep that's up there as possibly the most horrendous "do" I could think of.December 15th is our one. Where I have been told it is karaoke and my team are versus another department. I am absolutely terrible at singing, so along with my general disinterest in going our with several hundred colleagues, getting up on stage and performing a karaoke battle in front of them is among the worst things I could think of.
I'm desperate for the train strikes to get extended.
That’s apawlinAlmost as bad as the "mandatory" / emotional blackmail collection. Fine in a small office but I worked in a building with over 600 people so it was someone's birthday, wedding, anniversary of their first day in the office, etc. And heaven forbid If someone had a baby, male or female, came the "suggested amount" of a fiver minimum. last straw just before COVID lockdown was for Jane the junior who started two weeks ago and her pet cat had died so they wanted to give her something to buy another one! Bah humbug I guess my moaning didn't go unnoticed as when I got made redundant during lockdown after 34 years,bi literally had ONE person text me to wish me luck..fekk em all..

As a social anxiety sufferer that would be off-the-scale terrifying, although the reality is rarely as bad as the weeks of dreaded imaginings and self-defeating mental run-throughs leading up to it, plus the insomnia the night before etc.December 15th is our one.
