I may be in the minority here but I quite like the people I work with. It doesn't happen that regularly but I enjoy a night out with them on occasion

Exactly, H, one of ours is retiring and a couple of us have said we’ll catch up with you for lunch/coffee outside of the leaving do circus because we genuinely like the person, but don’t want to spend hours in the company of the rest. Don’t get me wrong, I get on with just about everyone and appreciate them on the whole, I just have no interest in socialising with the majority of them, something people can get affronted by.

I'm a natural introvert and the idea of it always causes me varying levels of anxiety.
As I have got older, they always tend to be far more pleasant than I expect, but I would still rather spend the time with my family instead.

often people share quite a lot in common with colleges. at least in tech, always worked at sociable places.

I hear you, and my current levels of stress at work, are pushing my anxiety to the limit, I went to the doctors yesterday and got fobbed off again, with lets do some bloods an ECG in a few weeks, so no panic then....
Except my head feels like i am constantly unbalanced, and dizzy, I feel sick most of the time.
To spend an evening with work colleagues who contribute to my stress by ineptitude is something I am dreading, but i have to show my face as I am the new build project manager.
That and I find places I do not want to be in, in the first place, over time louder and louder so much so I start to feel claustrophobic, is that normal ?
So much so I have left a restaurant with the wife and daughter in recently, because i need to get out asap.

Roll on Christmas day and all the rush and push is over for a week......

I think office/works dos are brilliant. An absolute guarantee that someone will disgrace themselves in spectacular fashion. One particular outstanding example of this was one young chap, who had recently joined, was completely pissed and decided to have a pop at the sales director. He staggered over to the director and loudly announced “Mr. ————, you’re a f***ing c*** and I f***ing hate you!” And on that note our young man collapsed to the floor dead to the world. Marvellous!!

P.S. The junior employee was never seen again.
