Well well well . . . . Poor old Brucey flapping around in the cretaceous with his outdated football tactics like a chubby old quetzalcoatlus and then suddenly, a Virgin Galactic SpaceShip III whooshes past him, he doesn't realise what it is but does he now know that he is in the wrong epoch? He probably still doesn't understand what Potter did to his team but hey, most people struggled (including me)! Hats off to some of the brilliant youtube vids, podcasts and articles (like together BHA & Seagulls social) who took time to try and work out exactly what Potter was trying to do.
Once again, no one picked Potter's selection, but may got within one player. That player was usually Polish hero Moder who is doing his very best to make sure that Potter picks him again and again and again.
Notes On Formations
Handing out points for formations has been very tough. Not only in the Newcastle fixture but all the way through the season. Potter picks very fluid teams and regualry plays players out of their traditional positions as he tries to to keep one step (or many hundreds with Brucey) ahead of his opposition. I was probably setting myself an impossible task to identify his formations exactly so quite a feew months ago, I simplified my criteria to just looking at the defensive line in terms of is it 3, 4 or 5, apologies to those who have found this a little ambigous; it's just too hard to pick the exact starting formation sometimes. Even this method was tested against the magpies as Potter plucked some sort of 1920's WM formation. Below is the heat map from the game, I don't think anyone picked it but what I can say was that there was no traditional wing-backs or centre forwards and only one centre back (flanked by two full backs). There for I'm going with a back 3, Potter set-up for a deep lying Newcastle and Moder & Gross very rarely found themselves defending as Biss and Lallana orchestrated the demolition from deep lying central positions. In addition, as Machiavelli pointed out, the formation was asymmetrical with Moder fairley central, Gross wider, Welbeck an out and out winger and Maupay as an old fashioned inside forward.
Well done to NEASTGULL who takes their lead up to 10 but it's still open and a few max score could see a big rise up the table.

How to play:
As per usual, you just need to select Potter’s starting 11 alongside his starting formation.
1 point - Correctly selected player
3 points - Correctly selected defensive formation
11 points - Bonus if you correctly select the whole team and formation.
25 points is your top score, just like in F1.
Competition closes just before the official team release (1hr before K.O.).
It's easy!
So . . . . . .
This is going to be a tough selection! You've got Connolly, Andone & Webster coming back . . . but when? Moder and Tross look unstoppable. The experience and guile of Lallana, Gross and Welbeck that has seen us do so well in the last tow games will surely mean they have a great chance. Check out Potter's press conference (tomorrow I think?) and you might get some clues.
Zeqiri impressed against England, when will his time come?
Are Alzate, Propper and Mac Allister are all second choice now?
How close are Izzy & Andone to a starting?
What do YOU think he'll do?
Have you got what it takes to Predict Potter's Picks?
Get picking!
