Personally missed the abuse mentioned in this thread (apart from the f*** off home chants, which were beyond pathetic, and direct evidence of a massive collective inferiority complex).

Spoke to a thoroughly decent and down to earth Utd fan and his dad on the tube who were very honest about their team and performance, and interested in hearing more about Brighton.

Also had a random in the crowd shake my hand and say commiserations and good luck for the rest of the season.

I had the misfortune to be punched by one of them ( well a punch but I don’t think Tyson Fury has much to worry about). I told my United friends I’ll be supporting City in the final due to the behaviour of some of their other fans.
I told the lad after he hit me ( I’m 57 years old) that he was a c@@@ and reflecting on it, I think I was quite accurate.
Unfortunately there is a bit of an old fashioned idea up here that being a Salford red means you are a hard man. All I saw was a group of overly drunk, coked up lads being complete knobheads, amongst many other decent United fans.
I was very disappointed with a large number of their following.

It's weird. I like Manchester, I like a lot of things that have come out of Manchester, and I like a lot of Mancunians.

But Man Utd fans, as a subset of all of the above, set my teeth on edge. I think they deserved a longer period in the football doldrums than they ended up enduring.

However, what was not nice was seeing United fans shouting that "You've seen United..." chant with real venom in the faces of families who were heading back to the coach park. I can honestly say that I was a bit concerned a few times with aggressive twats …seemly I have aids and take it up the arse….which is nice.

Indeed. I really didn't see the point of this from their fans at all - especially as the United we had see hardly gave us a masterclass in how to play the beautiful game.

Is there a worse chant in football? What have they seen? Nothing. I asked one of the United fans what experiences they had of the FA Cup first round. None. What's it like battling Chesterfield for a 4th tier title? No idea. What's it like assembling a team and having it cherry picked by the greedy? Not a clue.

They've seen nothing, they know nothing and they have such a tiny amount of perspective. Boo them, and everything about them and their club.

You missed the most important one. They don't have dreams they have expectations, if they understood the difference they would cry themselves to sleep every night.

one was adamant we always get the rub of the green decisions wise and only stayed in it through extra time because we got lucky with decisions and should've been down to 9 men. sadly he couldn't clarify who should've been sent off but I genuinely can't recall any incidents worthy of such response.

First Utd fan we saw with his daughter said, well played and they were lucky to win. Then wished us luck. After that just mouthy twats who'd apparently seen it all. Lucky we didn't have the Glazers in the dark days, they sound awful. Apparently Utd haven't won a trophy for 8 weeks or been in Europe for 3 days. Why don't they boycott a few games?

Think we’ve got to be honest with ourselves here. It was our day out. Families, scarves, tin foil FA Cups, face paint, etc. they’ve already won at Wembley not that long ago, just been to Seville. Top 4. They are used to it.
Didn’t see many Man U families and kids, mainly middle aged blokes who trek to Wembley from wherever like some of us did for Gillingham and now Falmer.
So, higher proportion of middle aged men drinking and supporting Man U yday, certainly higher proportion than ours. Therefore a bigger number of twats.
I’m sure if we had won the shoot out we would have had some twats goading the Man U fans as some did during the pens.

Yeah i was thinking similar. But also, for a bit of balance, we came across a couple of bellends but the rest were decent fans - all manc accents too. Think some folk are forgetting that the United fans that were there the other day aren't the ones to get your knickers in a twist about re plastic fans too. Those with a ticket in the United end yesterday would've all been long time s.t. holders - majority with recent away history too I expect.

I have no problem with most of their (non homophobic) chants. You do have a choice to either brush/laugh it off or get wound up by it (which is the reaction they want). I assume that the people who thought you’ve seen united, now feck off home was unacceptable, also thought singing down with the Palace to Dirty Leeds was also unacceptable?

That said, I hate United and their fans and Sunday hasn't changed my opinion of them. I hate myself for supporting City but I'm still in the anyone but United camp.

The only real aggro i saw all day was a Utd fan after the game on Wembley Way who was really angry being held back by his mates- he said he'd just been racially abused. Didn't see what happened though. That was the point we decided to leave that crowd and go to Central instead, where it was all good natured.

Someone I went to college with is a ‘die hard’ Utd fan, naturally he was born, raised and still lives in Brighton, and wasn’t at the game. Obviously this means he was very active on social media after the game delighting in the win and goading Brighton fans. The lack of awareness these people have is astonishing.
