Strange all the People on here that think Lopez was MOTM today, the general consensus where I sit in the centre of the North was that in no way did he deserve MOTM today you could tell that from the sounds of hundreds of cackling and groaning and looks of utter " WTF " looks on everyone's faces.
I Ike the guy, but his football has certainly gone down hill since Poyet left as has a few other players too.
But I think today's match, especially the second half was one of our best so far at the Amex.
Hopefully this will continue under Oscar and get better and better.
But I do think we need desperately to splash the cash on a 25 a season established striker who has a lot of skill and speed.
Obika looked up for it today far more than he did Tuesday and I think eventually he will come good given enough opportunity and time on the pitch. Just my opinion.

I can't believe I've read through just over two pages and OGG is the first to mention Ince easily MOM
I thought that he was below par today his initial control is attrocious thus meaning he has to to dive in again to retrieve the ball. I think that a number of people expect and possibly see too much in him as being the finished article and similar to Bridcutt in play and ability. Potentially he is great but a long way off the finished article at the moment lets keep some perspective.

I wonder what SD pass completion percentage was today?

Him and Bruno playing in tandem spent a lot of the first half linking up and creating space for each other, in front of the South West.
When the play was switched to Ward, it was SD that played the pass.
Once again Had Ulloa controlled the exquisite 'over the shoulder' through ball in the first half, would you be so down on SD right now? It was the pass of the game.

SD game is not and NEVER HAS BEEN about tackling, why must he suddenly become a player he isn't.

All of this! It seems that some of us cannot recognise class when it is amongst us.

I thought people saying Stevens for mom were being ironic, it seems some of them are actually being serious!! Funny how we all see a diiferent game, I thought he was shocking today, granted not as bad as his previous efforts but overall pretty poor all the same.

Thought there were a few candidates for MoM today but Spanish Dave was mine. Anyone criticising his performance today is an idiot. Some of his passing was sublime. Shame we couldn't make the most of it.

All in all it was a good performance from the team, quite a few players put in decent performances, just wasn't our day.

It's not about Lopez being a different player to what he's always been, everyone can appreciate Lopez has a good range of passing and fantastic control, but he simply wasn't providing any gusto to help the teams performance. He was slow and ponderous and willing to let the opposition pass him by. I want Lopez to the star he was last season, perhaps he needs to be more central, but he really is a shadow of the player that was such a threat under Poyet.

Are you being serious? Normally a big fan of Lopez but he was poor today. Heard a couple of people moan about obika after the game but also thought he looked good when he came on so what do I know.

The same threat that induced the legendary 'what does he do' thread, at the end of the calendar year.

I just don't see what else he was supposed to do, today.

Short of placing the ball on their goal line, moving Leo (or anyone else) behind the ball, pulling their foot back, and finally, pushing it forward through the ball, he did everything he possibly could to help the team score.

Without looking it up, I'm still prepared to bet he has, at worse the same, possibly even more, goals and assists than KLL, Orlandi, Will, Conway.

When firing on all cylinders last season he didn't play with gusto, I very much doubt he was noticeably quicker, he curtainly still seems able to play the killer through ball, which leads me onto this, for the third time:-

Had Ulloa controlled the exquisite 'over the shoulder' through ball in the first half, would you be so down on SD right now?

It doesn't matter how many times you type that same sentence, whether it's in bold, underlined or written on the moon. My opinion is that he wasn't very good today. Quite simply he's a shadow of the player that he was last season.
Regarding his assists, that's pretty bold of you to compare his stats to those of 3 sick notes and a loanee. Still if that suits your argument and make you feel superior fill your boots.

I still reckon half of you don't know which player is which. Stephens was unlucky on a couple of occasions. He's starting to take on the Crofts role.

Agreed. He was one of three clear MoM contenders, showing signs of having settled in. He may turn out to be better than Crofts if he keeps that up.

I try not to post after matches as a) I've had a couple of beers and b) I'm still usually wound up or to happy to look at the game objectively. Yesterday was, u strongly believe THE best team performance of the season....some of the football we played was simply breathtaking and Wigan can count themselves extremely lucky that two mistakes, which on another day wouldn't have happened, worked in their favour.

As for the players themselves, I thought they all battled really well and whilst Lopez wasn't my choice for MOM, his first half performance in particular was his best of the season.

My own MOM would have been either Stephens or Bruno.

Who am I supposed to compare his playing stats with, Greer and Upson?
The point being as disappointing SD had been at the start of the season, assuming you forget about him single handedly beating Leicester, and putting Brum and Donny to bed.
He's still out performed Kas, et al.
Kas being a player that still makes me scream like a Beatlemanic whenever he's got the ball, but has provided very little end product.

Had Ulloa smashed the ball in, it would have been one of the goals of the season.
I'm wondering if it would have changed your perspective.

In typing that its occurred to me we didn't have any SD territory free kicks, yesterday.
I guess that links in with the 'why does every attack have to come from out wide' thread.

I was delighted when Lopez was announced as MOM just because it annoyed the idiot behind me who'd been slagging him off all game.

I don't think Lopez was an undeserving MotM, personally I would've put Bruno, Stephens or Ward ahead of him but that's about it.

Normally I would be mentioning Ince as well because, well, he's usually the best one out there but yesterday was a lot of bluster and not much else (if that shot had gone in I'm sure I wouldn't have just said that).

You don't need to compare him to anyone, least of all 4 players that have had bit part roles all season.
I admit he played well against Leicester but to say he beat them on his own is a bit of a stretch, 2 superb balls don't make a season though, his free kick at Doncaster and volley against Birmingham were fantastic but other than those highlights he's been a passenger nearly all season. Yesterday was no different IMO. He's been dropped recently as he's been poor and we had more direct attacking players available after injury. For me Dale Stephens offered a lot more yesterday, passing, tackling, urgency and willingness.
