Either Georgino or Rutter if you ask me ;)

EVERYTHING went through him. Every long ball. Every throw in. Everything.

His ability to hold on to the ball despite having one, two, three players around him was incredible. You could see everyone was looking to give him the ball. That's a hell of a vote of confidence.

Webster, Gomez, Pedro, JPvH all did brilliantly, but for me it has got to be Rutter.

Also shout out to Baleba who continually dropped in to provide cover for Lamptey when he was (continually) targeted with high balls over the top.

Georginio is almost a freak and sorry Dirty fans, he was also a BARGAIN, but on reflection it was Webbo for me last night. Has stepped seamlessly into the side with Dunky out, including as very much a leader as well as a very decent CB. Can see why Fab rates him so highly.

One of the many great things about Webster is his ability to slip into the leadership role. It was interesting watching him direct people from the goal kicks that he was taking (as an aside, I notice a lot more long kicks from Bart and much less Fannying Around At The Back™ last night) with a real air of confidence. Also – and apologies for returning to a sensitive subject – there is something really satisfying about seeing players go through a purple patch, having been written off as 'not good enough – get rid' but a certain section of the fanbase.

In hindsight, maybe I should change my vote...

Not so sure that was part of a plan on our part, more game intelligence. Outtara had been instructed to position himself to eliminate any ball between our CBs, and also to eliminate throw-ins back to one of our defenders. This meant that we had to go forward more often, and more direct.
I prefer it when these things are mixed up more so we're less predictable for the opposition but last night illustrated that you also have to react to what the opposition do ...
... which is a reminder of what still remains the quotation that captures how to understand football: "Football is a simple game, complicated by the opposition" (Shankley).

Happened a lot at Southampton as well - Bart cleared to either Georginio or Rutter on the halfway line, back to goal
