Man for Man Better than 1991?

Worth bearing in mind that 7th place earned a playoff spot that season as they were expanding the top flight to 22 teams - in a normal season we would have just dipped out. Worth remembering Wilkins' free kick v Ipswich - let's hope Lopez or Orlandi has one of them in them v Wolves on the last day!

Agree with the above, the quality of football by us and in general is a world away from 1991 - the foreign players may have screwed us internationally but the trickle down effect to the Championship makes for football even superior to the top flight in he 80s and even early 90s IMHO.

Nelson joined in87 but was pretty much out of favour by 91. He was sent on loan to Notts Co towards the end of the season. Can't remember if he featured for us against them in the play off final , I've got a feeling he was on the bench
He traveled with the squad to Wembley, but Bazza told him he wasn't required for the match as he left the changing room toilet. Nelson was quite bitter about the whole affair, I don't think he's forgiven Lloyd to this day, There is a couple of pages devoted to the incident in Left Foot Forward.
