Malta Experience, and the various lovely rabbit dishes are my best memories.Watch out for pickpockets in Valetta, and any markets you go to.

Malta is like Marmite Wife and I went a couple of times in the 90s and loved it and considered going back this year but the accommodation is too expensive in comparison to Spain,. Sons ex father in law went and if he could have gone back to the airport on arrival and fly home he would have done as he hated it.

As you so rightly say, a lovely island with so much to see and do, l only visited the once, back in the early 1990's for a week, but it left a lasting impression. In those days they still had the famous old yellow buses in operation, many of them British builtLeylands, Bedford's and the like, long gone now l am sure.

Still very much a pro British island too, with a facinating and varied history, especially during the last war when they were under constant seige from the Italians and Germans for many months.

I fully intend to revisit one day.

Only island to be awarded a gallantry medal by the King, was it not?

Just booked my summer holiday (school holiday times) to Malta. Pretty much every option with every provider was considerably cheaper than Spain.

Valletta is ok-ish, the war museum is amazing and houses the George Cross and the handwritten citation from King George to the islanders. lots to see out and about, Mdina is nice, you could go to the Popeye Harbour for a laugh, plenty of good walks lots of interesting fortifications and watchtowers around the coast. Avoid Bugibba at all costs.

Loved the busses, get a pass and its as cheap as chips but a bit of worry as the driving standards are " lax", twice in a week the bus we were on was almost t-boned. You will find the local beer the palatable but ubiquitous, Cisk, for an upgrade drink the Blue Label Cisk which is more a beer then Cisk ordinary. eat as many Pastizzi as you can as they are cheap and nutritious ! , carry plenty of water when walking as it gets hot and the local water is a bit mineral rich to take from taps... finally, they seem to have no real understanding of cleanliness when it comes to litter, you will see constant streams of empty water bottles and Cisk cans within luzzing range of many paths and roads. Other than that, enjoy !

We have booked an apartment near Torrevieja for 5 adults for 11 nights for £325 and couldnt get anywhere near that for an apartments in Malta plus those in Spain all have a communal swimming pool.on the complex.

All good stuff, really going for the Historical aspects of the place as it has been the Crossroads of the Med but also hoping for a bit of early sun and basically a break from the UK.

Blue Label Cisk noted..

Not sure what he is on about regarding Cisk (pronounced Chisk BTW)

Cisk is a lager
Blue label is an ale.
There is a Cisk Excel which has a bit of blue on the label :)

Been to Malta many times, some good hotels, some awful! Avoid Bugibba and Qawra. The Hotel Fortina on the waterfront at Sliema is very good, they also have a more expensive sister hotel Fortina Spa right next door.
Valletta is lovely, steep walk up from the ferry but worth it. Pizza, pasta mainly in the restaurants but some local dishes. You have to have a beer in The Pub where Ollie Reed died (I ended up staying for a few more)! St Johns Cathedral is beautiful, with some great artwork.
Try a pea cake from the pastizzi which are on all the streets!
And finally, right at the end of the waterfront is a small locals bar/cafe, think it's called The Garage. Cheap beer, cheap food, one of my favourite places to chill!

Yep, Cisk is a lager beer and the Blue Label a higher ABV and is also a more British style beer, which I preferred. Both brewed by the same company, hence my suggestion to upgrade from Cisk to Blue Label.

I long for the days not long ago when a weeks bus ticket was 6 and a half euros . Love the place, but not been for 8 years . Sitting with a beer looking over Spinola Bay is grand.

Valleta is lovely. Loads of history. Check out some of the museums. The harbour tour is good.
Gozo is worth a visit. We just got a bus and the the ferry but the buses can get very busy in high season.
St Julian’s bay is a great walk around the waterfront.
Avoid St. George’s bay unless you want the Benidorm experience.

St George's is ok Andrews Bar at the end always gives you a warm welcome . Up the hill is Paceville which is the lively area ,but it's hardly Benidorm or Playas de le Americas nightlife.
