Malky Mackay

West Ham defender Malky Mackay has left the club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.
The 33-year-old has slipped down the pecking order following the signings of Danny Gabbidon and James Collins.

"I'm sorry to be leaving West Ham. It's a terrific club and I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here," Mackay told the club's official website.

"But at this stage of my career I need to be playing on a regular basis and it is the right time to move on."

Mackay, a former Scotland international, joined West Ham from Norwich last summer and made 22 appearances to help the club gain promotion to the Premiership.

Will be on MASSIVE wages,so i doubt it very much.

Then again i expect we would have all said that about Jason Dodd,had the rumours done the rounds on here before his signing.

If MacKay's reason for leaving IS to seek first team football and wages are not a massive factor for him then could McGhee and the board persuade him this is the right place to come.

As he's 33, would be just a little bit worried about the pace in our defence.

Butters is, what, 35 or thereabouts, Mayo has never had pace, Ken's 34, with another 30 something I'd be just slightly concerned.

He's another butters,.....will play at CB all day hoofing the ball out of danger but don't ask him to run too fast.

Narj fans were gutted to lose him but he never really proved himself with us. Typical old fashioned centre half....big, brutal and slow.

Sad to see him go and wish him well but with almost a new back 4, he just won't fit in.

Believe it or not, Mayo was actually the fastest sprinter at the start of last season in the pre-season tests - according to Ferret anyway
