It's funny you say that. There is no other sport where I feel the difference between watching live and on tv is more pronounced.

On TV I find baseball tedious, unwatchable, too long, and mind numbing and just can't stick with a game after about 2 innings.

I've been to about 5 Major league games and a bunch of minor league games in real life and absolutely love them. Possibly my second favourite spectator sport after football to watch live. Going over to Boston in July so will definitely tick Fenway off the list.

Correct on all counts - we always take in baseball when we can, which has included MLB games on both coasts, minor league games in various Florida spots and we've even seen the Tigers in pre-season action down in Florida in February a few times.

I appreciate it will sound as heresy to some but as is the case with all American sports - there's always something going on somewhere, often not on the field of play. You will be entertained and I'd be stunned if you didn't enjoy the experience.

Totally agree. We went to the Rays vs White Sox at Disneys Wide World of Sports one year. Old wooden bleachers, hot-dogs and beer, and the sun going down on a warm Florida evening. Perfect.

Fenway Park is definitely worth a visit, the oldest MLB ballpark still in use and Boston is a great city to explore. Both the original stadiums in NYC (Shea and Yankee) have been replaced, the new Yankee Stadium felt really soulless to me but like Citifield.

Agree that watching live is way better than seeing it televised. I've had friends who were not really fans but still enjoy the experience which is unique

It’s a similar story for me with Basketball …. Other than it’s also shit live apart from the last 5 minutes if the scores are close.
I went to Portland Trailblazers v Washington Wizards in Portland. Three brits and one colonial, after the first quarter the three brits are on the concourse drinking ….. and considering how shit the beer was it gives you a idea of the tediousness of the game. From memory the Wizards were one of the better teams at the time.

FWIW, I find baseball on the to very similar to watching cricket. I’ve yet to see a game but Wrigley Field is on my bucket list.

Agree about basketball. I've only been to one game, and it was a bit one sided in that for half the game, one side was outscoring the other, and for the other half, they were matching each other. There was never a time when the losers looked like they might catch up. That's the problem when scoring is too easy - the easier it is to score, the less likely you are to get a competitive game.

I'll beat you to Wrigley Field. I'll be there next Friday. :bigwave: Well worth the trip.

Exactly. A huge part of the appeal is the overall atmosphere/environment. Plus I feel a lot more involved in the action when I can see the whole field not just from looking over the pitcher's shoulder on tv.

Done Old Yankee stadium, Great American ballpark in Cincinnati and Dodger stadium, plus the old Binghamton Mets, Scranton Yankees and Columbus Clippers in the minors. Sometimes I think minor league ball is actually more fun.

Rays win, Rays win. On our travels, hard to match. But we seem to get to the play-offs against teams with bigger budgets and suffer a bit.

Yankees on fire.

Have the Red Sox spotted someone in the draft? They’re not doing well at all.

That didn't help the Giants much last night.
15-2 down, going in to the 9th, The Cardinals bring Albert Pujols on as their closer!

This is almost disrespectful taking the mick, but hey...
I guess the Albion equivalent would be 4-0 up against Manchester United and putting Sanchez up front and Maupay in goal

I'm struggling to take in where the Mets are at the moment, we're always the perennial underdog, but at the minute we're top of NL East - it's just not cricket.

The Subway Series on July 26/27 will be interesting as the Yankees (boo, hiss) are also at the top of their league. Been a while since both NY teams were at the top

Managed to take a few work colleagues who were in town, to an Astros game on Wed. They played Seattle and the Astros were awful. They lost the series 2-1. In all the 3 years I have been here, that was the first time at the Astros for a game at Minute Maid Park. They had the roof closed to protect us from 30C evening temps!
Meanwhile the Braves win 8 on the run and are chasing down the Mets.

Funnily enough, I was in Cleveland a couple of weeks ago. One of the bars we were in had a poster from the event and my friend was telling us the story.

It was particularly amusing to find out they did the same promotion again, a couple of weeks later but with a limit on the number of beers you were allowed.

Is there any info on who are playing in the next three London series that were recently announced?

We had the Yankees Red Sox last time, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was Giants Dodgers this time round, although personally I'd really like it to feature the Blue Jays. Not just for selfish reasons, as surely they are well supported in the UK?

Blue Jays going well at the moment although the Yankees already look unstoppable in the AL East. And I still can't get used to seeing Josh Donaldson in the pin stripes.
