Nearly 23,000 cases today, this wave is not slowing, it is accelerating rapidly, up 70% weekly average compared to previous week. Fortunately deaths are low (albeit we know this is partially weekend lag) but these cases could in a few weeks time start putting quite some pressure on hospitals.

3 deaths, 1.2 million tests and 22,000 positive, that sir is a tiny %.

Hospital admissions pretty flat as well.

You really need to lighten up and look at the good news as well.

I respectfully disagree, I think whilst there was no doubt restrictions were needed, I genuinely believe they are doing more harm than good now, 2 girls at my daughters school have hung themselves in recent weeks, their struggles with the restrictions were well known, when teenage girls are taking their own lives, then I'd say the time has come to re-evaluate !

That is incredibly sad, but is it a possible case they may have been of a mind to do this anyway and not just because of Covid restrictions? I guess no one really knows but it makes an emotive point as to how all are affected...

So we're back to the vulnerable can just be locked away again, rather than wait a couple of months, just so people can enjoy their freedom now!
I understand your position (somewhat, but not fully) and say this in full respect for your position, but realistically, people can't be expected to continue with lockdown measures year after year, particularly when the number of people affected so badly is extremely small.

the number is likely to be inflated by a technical issue yesterday that meant some cases couldn't be counted and were due to be added to the next update.

You didn't need to though to travel to London or watch the games in poorly ventilated indoor venues. Plus many of this age group have either 1 jab and limited immunity or no vaccination at all. The negative test is a waste of time as you can easily fib and say it's negative.

She clearly took aim at the events themselves.

I'm getting a bit fed up of being misrepresented on here, like some rabid lockdowner - I have never once suggested lockdown should go on for years and years, and have even agreed things should get back to "normal".

All I have asked is that we get to a position where a decent percentage of adults have been double vaccinated - that's not too much to ask is it?

They are jabbed?

If they are jabbed then its personal responsibility....

They're not all jabbed and for many vulnerable people there is no current data as to how effective the vaccine is for them, therefore the more people who can be vaccinated the better, as hopefully it will begin to drive infections down too in the long run...

If they haven't been double jabbed by the 19th, that is on them I am afraid.

The vaccine is amazing, the data is backing that up - sadly it wont stop everyone who has it dying.

You have taken personal responsibility to get the jab for the family, more people should be like you.

by the 19th we will be close to 70 percent adult pop double jabbed,

3 in 5 UK adults receive both doses of COVID-19 vaccine
Over 60% of UK adults have been vaccinated with a second dose of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine, giving them the fullest possible protection.

Agree, it's down to individual responsibility, but at the same time you are ignoring that there are many vulnerable people who can't have the vaccine for health reasons.

The more people who have the vaccine will hopefully drive down infections!

There are lots of people that cant have other medication and they have to manage the risk themselves.

I don't believe I am misrepresenting you, and if I have I apologize. I recognise you are a positive person who has some difficult circumstances regarding Covid. I also don't think of you as a rabid lockdown advocate. But 61 percent double vaccinated and 84 single shot vaccinated are high numbers and rising week on week. A 'decent percentage' is a very non specific statement which will mean many things to many people.

Agree, but for the most part those people’s health isn’t affected by the actions of others!

As for managing risk, my family unit know all too well about that, but on the few occasions we have put ourselves out there, in harms way, I have been saddened by the lack of respect of many, with regards mask wearing and social distancing in particular.

Thank you for your positive response, much appreciated - how about the figure that Bozza plucked out the air previously of 75% double vaccinations, seems like a good target.

Very possibly, even likely I’d say, but ultimately the restrictions pushed them both over the edge, they had no access to the help they needed, another consequence of the restrictions.
I’ve always been anti lockdown but I did concede the need for them, but I hope once we never use them in the way we have ever again, they’ve caused so much devastation that I doubt this country will ever recover from.

I hope you are wrong about not recovering from lockdown and equally hope you are right that we never have to use them again in the way we have had to...

Things have to return to normal or as normal as can be soon!

It depends how big the number gets but at the current rate we're looking at 50k 7 day moving average by 19th July

Hospitalisation rate currently about 4% (obviously some lag after a case is confirmed), that number could still get pretty high in a month or so quite possible over 1k / day

I still don't think all restrictions removed on 19th July is a given....

The hospitalisation rate and number in hospital will be far more critical than the number of infections in terms of influencing lockdown easing I think…..going to be interesting to see where the vacc progress dissects the admission figures because there’s a lag with them as well. If quite a few are testing positive but not many are getting seriously ill then there’s no reason not to unlock.
