The police once again seem to think that it is up to them to set the rules. "South Lakes Police said people should "take a long, hard look at your own conscience" if planning to visit the area." As we all know the police force are the experts here
They should be implementing the rules set by the government, not taking it upon themselves to dictate what should and should not happen.

We have two of the highest levels of cases per population in the country (Barrow and South Lakeland). People here are incredibly concerned about having a big influx of visitors to the Lake District again at the moment. I'm not just talking about farmers and landowners, but the general populace.

So, yes, the Police can only enforce the legislation / rules - and that is that you can travel for exercise irrespective of distance. But should you? What the Police here are saying is 'examine your conscience before travelling to an area so hard hit with cases, which your visit may make worse'. They'e not saying it's legally wrong, they're saying it's morally wrong.

I fully expected this. There is no way that suddenly sending the kids to school and travelling to and from work, in cramped conditions has suddenly become safe. The Furlough pay percentage will reduce in order to force people back to work, whatever the risk. This is an attempt to get Herd Immunity by the back door.

The Furlough pay percentage will reduce in order to force people back to work, whatever the risk. This is an attempt to get Herd Immunity by the back door.

I assume if they are told to go back and refuse on safety grounds (outside rather than inside ) they can be sacked.

The answer is that different data collecting bodies use different rubrics and data sources. They also update at different times. A high count would probably include data on care home cases, for example, or restrict cases to confirmed (lab test) or just clinical diagnosis (which has been done on my s treet down the phone with a nurse practitioner). Rather than confuse myself I am sticking with the Johns Hopkins data which is a bit behind the stuff on other websites, but gives global data allowing me to get a better sense of what's going on over time. I wouldn't recommend pondering individual differences because unless you can mine the declarations to find out where the numbers come from and when they were collected you are none the wiser, and even if you can identify why the numbers are different it won't really help.

Still, the huge difference between the WHO, John Hopkins and UK Gov is quite something. The UK Gov shows steady decline, but both other data sources show fairly consistently that we're diagnosing around around 4,000 new cases per day. Clearly WHO and JH have a fairly similar data stream with an offset of a day. Something to ponder.

If I was 3 years older I'd be taking a pension drawdown and flicking v-signs at any elite forcing me back into work.
