It was true eg Wickes was able to remain open for click and collect. For ‘essential’ products.

But workers, unions and the media kicked up a fuss at the beginning of lockdown, and so countless large national businesses closed for PR reasons.

A lot of businesses didn't have to/weren't forced to close, they simply closed to protect their staff seen to be protecting customers and done as at 1St the country went into meltdown. However now we are starting to manage numbers and a lot of population have got used to social distancing and they can make sure workplaces can adapt to the 2 metre rule

Overtaken Italy on normalised cumulative death graph. Often said that we are "2 weeks behind" Italy curve, meaning a fairly steady rate of deaths daily for quite a while yet

I really think the lockdown needs to end soon. We’re fast approaching “the cure is worse than the illness” territory. Cancer and heart patients aren’t getting proper treatment and a depression will kill thousands.

Plenty of empty beds in the nightingale hospitals. Plenty of bored nurses with nothing to do, too, other than choreograph dance routines for Tik Tok.

Self isolation isn’t a cure. Unless we intend to stay under house arrest until a vaccine is available, which could take years, we will have to face it sooner or later.

And has this lukewarm lockdown actually done much good really? If it takes three weeks from infection to death, our peak happened one full week before lockdown.

And then there’s Sweden. I read that Israel are looking at herd immunity too.

Yes it’s like the actual frontline NHS aren’t reading from the same script as the top brass !
The other day I saw a post on social media saying how overstretched and terrified our nurses were how they are all stressed and that they were scared every day, then the very next post was a TikTok of a load of nurses dancing around the hospital, now not wanting to knock our wonderful and committed nhs nurses, but they didn’t seem particularly terrified and scared to me.

If you compare deaths in the UK with those in Sweden then the lockdown has been a success. Sweden reported 715 deaths from Covid19 yesterday out of a population of just over 10 million - equivalent to over 4,000 deaths in a population of 60+ million.

When it does end, the elderly and other vulnerable groups, should still self isolate until a vaccine is widely available. Annoying for them, but it’s their lives at stake. Reading a BBC article, it’s still unclear whether someone’s already had covid-19 and survived, are they immune from a second infection? If yes, that widens the numbers of elderly not having to self isolate.

I see we’ve got back round to not really caring about the deaths of the elderly or those with underlying health issues.

After all, they’d have died anyway.

Your point is still correct. Sweden’s covid-19 mortality numbers swamp the numbers per capita in neighbouring (lockdowns) Finland, Norway and Denmark.

You imply that’s an insult. I’m just repeating what others here have said who know nurses at various hospitals in Sussex and Surrey.

Hospitals have a lot of empty beds and many nurses have nothing to do - fact.
