Doom-monger alert on question time. The last thing we need is an ex senior public health official spouting venom on tv. He has a responsibility to avoid panic in the masses.

Perhaps, just perhaps, if you weren't so personally offensive to people and tried reasonable discussion for a change, you might find that most of us were actually totally sympathetic to your situation.

You might also then be able to manage a level of conversation that one might expect in a face to face interaction, instead of coming across as permanently rude, aggressive and always after a fight.

I hope your wife is ok through all this. Best wishes.

Really? I'd be sympathetic to people whether I agree with them or not. You come across as a bit a ****.

Thank you for your wishes. I'm really not after a fight and most of my posts are far from aggressive and normally supported by many "thumbs up". I try not to be controversial. I am somewhat perturbed by some who appear to have little regard for others. Losing a holiday is a shit, losing a loved one is devastating.

All the best, and can't wait to see your boy play for Sussex :)

The public will panic regardless when they hear news reports of extreme measures other countries are imposing.

Can't you read?

I said that "most of us are sympathetic to your situation".

I said that that I wished him and his Mrs well.

I just took offence to being personally insulted by him and told that "he feels sorry for my son".

Have a word mate. I'm being nice FFS.

I was probably overly flippant and riled you because of that. For which I apologise.

No drama and best of luck.

It will begin to get really interesting when a PL squad, or most of one, is infected meaning a club can't put a side of any merit out.

Who would have thought it would be Arsenal against Brighton...

I’ve been saying for over a week now that the real number of cases in this country is certainly in the hundreds of thousands and quite possibly the millions.

Because most people have only mild symptoms we will never know they’ve got it. But famous people tend to work in environments with medical facilities more easily to hand so no stone will be left unturned. That’s why footballers, MPs, millionaires, F1 personnel etc are already diagnosed. Any professional footballer turning up for work with a slight cough or a sniffle this week will be tested, whereas you or I wouldn’t be.

i've had a continuous "cold", bit of sniffle, slightly sore throat, since about November. if i got another infection i wouldnt notice unless it went to fever.

Everyone has a right to air their concerns and worries about this nasty virus that is crippling the world. Some are worried about family, some worried about their business, some their hard earned holidays, some the football season - it’s impacting all of lives in different ways. One thing is we shouldn’t be point scoring and beating each other up about it, we should all be talking together and helping each other through our worries, however trivial it might sound to others - in my years on NSC that’s what we are good at !

So let’s all pull together and help and advise each other through this challenging time !!

Exactly same as me around mid November. Did you have a very strange version of the flu that properly tested you before hand? Felt like synthetic flu ranging from really high temps to ear ache and going in to a bit of a trance when trying to sleep for about 7 days. Not felt the same since and others I have spoken to gave identical accounts (even a friend back in Germany) . I am fairly sure it was the same virus and has been around longer than being claimed.

One of the things that pisses me off about this situation is that the markets are allowed to tumble. Surely, in these desperate times, governments should suspend the markets. Pension funds, Isa's etc are all taking a massive hit and I suspect there will be some hedge fund managers who will making a killing as the rest of society struggles.

Just read all 101 pages...

I can't say i am not worried by what is going on. Just seeing anything like this virus, affect the whole globe in such a dramatic affect gives me an end of the world, hollywood film feel (i know that this isn't the case). I am longing for normality to just come back. Wow how i took normality for granted.

For what it's worth i do think the stock markets have overrated. Yesterday being the worst day since 1987. I, like no doubt many others on here have had over 50% of all my lifetime shares wiped out, but i keep reminding myself this is just money.

Keep safe people

Seems like not everyone agrees on the timing of current measures.

It does seem very strange that the strategy that we are taking is different to almost every other country in the world.

“The government's decision not to cancel public events over the coronavirus outbreak is "concerning", says ex-health secretary Jeremy Hunt.
His criticism of the UK approach comes as new measures to delay the virus spreading come into effect.
Many other countries have responded to the crisis by closing schools and cancelling sports and arts events.
But Prime Minister Boris Johnson said it was crucial to get the timing right for stricter measures.

Mr Hunt, who quit as foreign secretary in July, told BBC Newsnight that the UK was in a "national emergency" and suggested the government's new approach did not go far enough.
Asked about the decision not to cancel large gatherings yet, he said: "I think it is surprising and concerning that we're not doing any of it at all when we have just four weeks before we get to the stage that Italy is at.
"You would have thought that every single thing we do in that four weeks would be designed to slow the spread of people catching the virus."
Much of Italy - the world's worst-hit country after China - is currently in lockdown as the country's tally of deaths has topped 1,000.
Mr Hunt, chair of the Commons health and social care committee, said he was also "personally surprised that we're still allowing external visits to care homes".
He added that the evidence from countries who appeared to have been successful in turning back the virus showed they "moved very early" on introducing social distancing.
