So what are the figures for infected individuals in the UK and what is the true percentage of deaths?

No-one knows. Without testing, it's impossible to even estimate. The figures are slightly misleading, as deaths were counted at 5pm yesterday, number of cases at 9am today. So the percentage may actually be slightly higher. At the moment, they are only testing people admitted to hospital - so the 6% relates to only the most severe cases that have required hospitalisation.

They must be testing more than just those admitted to hospital - Boris, Hancock, MPs, celebrities. Prince Charles, etc.

Boris and co were tested because they are considered important in the fight against CV. The rest of us wouldn't have been tested, so when looking at the numbers in general, those tested have been in hospital.

UK official figures 17,000 with the virus 1,019 dead that's a 6% death rate

It is said that 1in 3 of those with Coronavirus will be hospitalised so with 17,000 known infectedthat's 5,666 6% of those will die that is 340

The actual figure for those in hospital with Coronavirus is around 8,000 if 6% of those die that is 480

Neither 340 or 480 are anyway close to the current figure of 1.019

So what are the figures for infected individuals in the UK and what is the true percentage of deaths

Unless we test we will never know all those suspected of having the virus and test everyone suspected of having had the virus, it will be guesswork cleaver guesswork granted

“It is said that 1 in 3 will be hospitalised” who says that? Most reports coming from Italy/China are that the majority are asymptomatic - ie 50-75%, so 1 in 3 is miles off.

I’d be shocked if it was any worse than 1/75-100 at most.

We could really do with some good news coming out of Italy in the next few days.

Their infection rate has fallen day on day for 4 days now, so that should start showing in the death toll, you’d hope...

They are VIPs, obviously going to be tested. They are otherwise only testing people in hospital. Even people with serious symptoms are just told to stay at home without being tested. People are only being taken to hospital and being tested if they are having trouble breathing.

Think you are getting a little mixed up. First you are saying of 17k, 6% will die, ie 1019 but then you are saying 6% of those hospitalised will die! It can't be both. Anyway, the mortality rate is irrelevant at the moment as we aren't testing enough people. There will be people showing some symptoms that are self isolating for 14 days but aren't necessarily getting tested. The medics also think there are those that are asymptomatic, ie have the virus but show no symptoms but could still be infectious.

I would suspect the vast majority of those that have been tested are already in hospital.

Poor old Chris Whitty, doesn't quite make the VIP cut. Johnson and Hancock both tested but Whitty reported as showing signs so self isolating, no mention that he's been tested!

889 in Italy, marginally down from yesterday.

Here’s hoping and praying they have had their peak now.

However, they’re still on course for possibly as much as 20,000 or more overall. Hopefully the toll will fall as quickly as it rose.

did he go to state school?

we simply don't have any idea how many in UK are infected had it without knowing and recovered, whether it's likely or unlikely to be re infected, it's just a minefield that the scientists are just starting to learn about. The only way the country will get back to some sort of normality is if every single person gets tested to prove they've had it or currently have it. That will take months.

Italy the first country to tick over 10000 deaths, certainly not the last. Horrible what’s happening.

More than that, those who’ve never tested positive, will need to be retested every week.
