This was ALLEGEDLY posted by a Brit living in Italy. It’s from Facebook so treat with CAUTION. I’ve reposted purely for the entertainment value, the fact that it does contain a some sage advice and it has a ring truth about it.
‘Dear People of the UK
You will of course be aware that Italy has taken extreme measures in the hope of slowing the spread of the Corona Virus. These are measures the UK may be forced to implement, later down the line.
As a Brit living in Italy, here are some things you need to know:
Our supermarkets HAVE STAYED OPEN. They are on slightly reduced hours and you have to queue to get in (yes, it’s a ball-ache) but they are OPEN. EVERY DAY. Deliveries continue to arrive so for ****s sake, shop like NORMAL HUMAN BEINGS!
Enforced social isolation does not mean you cannot leave your house. It means you can still leave your house for ESSENTIAL activity, like shopping. So put down the ****ing pasta and toilet rolls and breathe. Now you don’t have to share a bed with your four kids because you’ve had to turn their rooms in to store cupboards for the all the pointless and selfish hoarding you are doing.
Pharmacies are still open so you DO NOT NEED 236 bottles of Calpol, 429 packets of paracetamol and 987 Tubigrips. Colds, flu, headaches, muscle pain, period pain, teething babies. They are still out there, Corona Virus or not. So, again, step away from the goods, buy what you NEED, put back what you don’t. We still have access to all basic medical needs. Again, we have to queue and observe the recommended 1M distance from others but within our community, this has been well-organised and adhered to. Suck it up. For info, the Italians do not queue or respect personal space in the way that we Brits do. If they can do it, then you ****ing can too! It’s practically a national pastime!
Bakeries and butchers - still open. See points above.
Pet shops - still open. Calm it, Fido. Your nightly Dentastix is safe.
DIY shops - still open for ESSENTIAL maintenance items. I only know this because I tried to buy a cactus when I went for a new shower head, only to find non-essential aisles closed to the public. Fair enough, right?
Do me a favour. Share this around. The measures are extreme but they are not SO extreme that you need to be utter ***** to each other.
Shop responsibly. Then go home, pour yourself a gin and celebrate the fact that your food shop is not going to take you 6 hours to put away.
And let’s be honest, on the off chance that you do contract the virus, the last ****ing thing you are going to want is a big bowl of pasta, 2ltrs of Fanta and a bumper pack of ****ing Morrison’s sausage rolls.’

Terrible statistics in Italy, we can only hope what many of us are doing now will prevent us reaching that level as fast as they have.

Johnson was pretty poor in today's press conference. There was almost nothing new to announce and he got into a mess with a claim that 'we can turn the tide' within 12 weeks. When pressed he went into bluster mode and was unable to indicate what that might actually mean. He almost lapsed into 'get Brexit done' mode i.e. repeating a slogan.
On the 'London issue', still no intention to shut down pubs and clubs, even though he acknowledged that there was a 'patchy' response to social distancing. Has he ever been in a pub? Surely if only 5 people can turn up to a C of E wedding, why is he happy to see people sitting jam-packed in a pub (perhaps this tradition is more scared than a church wedding?)
Not a great session for building confidence, in my view.
(Wetherspoons,, Worthing at 15.00hrs as seen through a window: no shortage of 70+ punters sitting around the same tables.)

My god! The figures coming out of Italy are truly shocking.
This is not some third world country, this is a modern so called first world democracy with a great health care system. I have been unfortunate to visit a hospital in Italy and it was a fabulous caring place.
This is horrible. We have lots of friends in Italy and visited the country and I have studied their Roman and pre Roman history and this is very upsetting.

Agreed. Rubbish press conference. And moving to 'remote' only - even easier to squirm out of questions.
It is effecting businesses. My barbers has had to let 50% of his staff go this week. Demand has dropped off, risk of imminent closure and had to protect his income + ability to pay bills. Doesn't help that he is a landlord and his tenant is already making noises about stopping rent for a bit.

So far i thought Boris and the two with him had been dealing with questions quite well but today they were very poor, just repeated the same answers, I thought particularly the expert in epidemics looked extremely tired and downtrodden, remember they are human too, so as much as it wasn’t a very enlightening conference I can’t imagine they are going to be everyday, there isn’t always going to be anything new to say.
We are in a phase of this virus now where the early damage has been done, we must all be responsible and act now so that in two weeks time we aren’t where Italy are.

Somebody from the press picked up on it immediately, asked the question, and Johnson looked left and right before he answered. They looked intently at their notes.
