If you haven’t bitched about Boris, Cummings, the two lead scientists steering the government, or preached that the rest of Europe are handling this far better than us .... then I’m wrong, you too have debated without an agenda.

I’ve been self isolating since Thursday, as I’d developed a dry cough. If I do have corona, it’s a very mild case, no fever, just a bit of a cough and short of breath. I’ve kept my distance from my wife and kids, kept out of the same room, disinfected surfaces etc. So far, the wife and kids haven’t developed any symptoms.

Now here’s the difficult bit, my wife thinks I’m being melodramatic and that I’m just suffering with a bit of man flu. Therefore she is very much against the idea of self isolating herself and the kids for the next 14 days. If I could get tested, this would resolve matters, but I can’t.

So it looks like 14 days at home with a pissed off wife and kids!

The other guys speak so much better than him, it's almost funny how bad Boris is, but it's not.

id have hoped we could accept the general advice, understand we dont out if a bit poorly, keep a respectable distance, then everything can stay open on a go slow. seems we'd rather have explict advice to close everything, then complain about that, and lament all the staff out of work (who i've genuine concern for as they will be stuck). anything more than a couple of weeks restrictions will be responded to with outrage of how dare the government do this.

Yep, there seems to be no right answer, beyond 'don't be a dick'.

Not helped by the fact it seems impossible to get any consistency from those who should know better.

This is no time for politics.

There are no clowns, just people doing their best to save lives under very difficult circumstances. You may agree or not with their approach, but politics is now officially on hold.

Exactly what we are NOT doing.

Health experts (not towing a government line) on 5live and LBC, despite leading questions, said:
1. We’re testing far more than we did.
2. At this more advanced stage, it’s vital that we do not waste vital healthcare personnel resources in testing.

Now I am no friend of Bojo, but I think in these press conferences he's doing really well. He defers to his scientists to the extent they can actually interrupt him and he apologises for the fact he was speaking. I think this shows that behind the scenes, these people feel confident speaking their mind and that they are doing the leading, not the PM.

I'm actually feeling more confident from these briefings, that actually our PM isn't being some swiveled eye lunatic like the flappy-haired gimp over the Atlantic, but actually he is being led by experts and rightly so.

'shock horror' from Red Bold I hear people cry, but there I said it, outwardly I'm actually feeling some trust toward him in this crisis.

Anyone would think that Boris isn’t a healthcare expert or scientist.

Those “other guys” are getting a daily kicking in this thread for both their strategy and alleged awful communication skills.

I am in almost exactly the same position. I had a bit of a temperature at the weekend for a little while, but otherwise just feel like I had/have a bad cold. Not really a runny nose, but mostly a bad cough that has left me feeling sore and bruised. Just texted my wife, she accepted the news stoically, my youngest was happy that he didn't need to go to college, and the eldest who is 19 is far from pleased.

You are not being melodramatic, you are (although it is unlikely you have the virus) trying to help your fellow countrymen as are all the others amongst us who are in this position.

That leaves teachers in a very vulnerable position as the only profession required to not work from home and every day be in a public place with hundreds of potential carriers.

Trumplestilskin is absolutely terrifying right now.

Every utterance he makes, an expert is required to follow up and absolutely contradict what he said.
It happened 3 times after his teleprompter read speech last week.

How the fudge is that even possible?


More worryingly still (for America) is Americans response to this is falling right down party lines.
If you're a MAGA Trump person (white man) this most definitely is 'just a cold' and will soon pass.

They are not actively testing except in hospitals, the figures are pretty much those that are in hospital only. Think of cramped old London with all those crowds and vast daily movements in-out confined on tubes and Buses and trains, probably spreading like wildfire.

I'm never going to vote for the guy but personally think Boris is handling this as well as can be expected.

I'd love to be able to ask him candidly, and receive an honest answer, whether he'd have thrown his hat into the ring for the PM job if he'd have known this was hiding around the corner.

It is a simple toss up between the problem you describe and one in which if schools are closed, health workers etc can't work in the NHS when most needed, as some will need to look after their children and the fact that some of the most vulnerable (grandparents) will be asked to look after the carriers!

Johnson has nothing to offer except his office. funny thing is if he just pushed them out front he'd be criticised for that too. any other sensible politican would be doing the same, thankful we havent got Trump who's utterly gash at this (and has forced panic in financial markets).

If thats the case, there won't be many reopening after, unless rent/rates are suspended

So school staff are expendable. Perhaps they need to be voting with their feet rather than accept being thrown under the bus.
