Yes they do. Well they help. at least.

Not according to the experts on R5L. You would need an airtight mask with a very fine filter as Corona Viruses are tiny and you need to change it regularly to avoid moisture. You would also need goggles to protect your eyes. The flimsy paper masks you see people wearing won’t stop anything.

Correct. I think it’s a psych thing. Each to their own bit you don’t half look a **** walking round the shops like a surgeon and what a waste of money too. Religious relics will be flying off the shelves next. Everyone needs to just calm down. Still not even declared a pandemic by WHO I notice.

How many times do we rub our eyes in an hour? A lot more than we realise.

I’m consciously of this after a number of sty’s and skin around nose and eyes problems and you’re absolutely right, it’s so much more than you think. Have to catch and stop myself, getting better though!

You don’t need to rub them. If someone coughs or sneezes nearby you can catch the virus through your eyes.

Apparently (according to the expert on the radio) if someone sneezes in a room the droplets can stay airborne for several minutes so you needn’t even meet the person spreading the virus!

No word of a lie, the Telegraph just phoned me to see if the 'super spreader' had ever driven kids to local football matches, contacted me as I'm chairman of a local side and must have got my number from our website.

Parasitic journalists going to make this guy's life hell for a while!

Wasn't a chap called Tom Ball from the Times was it?

Mate of mine was contacted last night on facebook by said journo trying to find out who the guy was. He contacted my mate because he used to work for Servomex........6 years ago!!

My pal told me he couldn't help. Then this morning after he was named he got back in contact asking if he had any information on the guy now that he had been named.

Some journalists really are scumbags!

Coughs and sneezes cause diseases!

This is one of the many many things I don't get about this.

Does anyone seriously think wearing a mask is going to make any difference? And how many people in the UK have got it now?

Jeez if we believed everything we read in the press about this we wouldn't go out at all.

Meanwhile hospital wards continue to be rammed and overworked with elderly patients with the flu......

Bit harsh calling him a 'Super Spreader'...

Not at all harsh. It's not a dig and everybody knows it's not his fault. But 'super spreader' is a defined parameter for those who spread infections to higher than normal ratios.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super-spreader

I read elsewhere with this outbreak the average was infecting another 2 or 3 people. Super spreaders are those who by no fault of their own (usually just because they of where they work or the circles they're in) infect quite a bit more than average.

Really got to feel huge amounts of sympathy for the bloke that's been identified as our local 'super-spreader'. Guy's completely blameless. Just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Could have happened to any one of us

You look far more of a **** walking around in Hong Kong without one.

One of the infected GPs works with one of my Colleagues husband. As such PHE have said that the husband should self isolate for two weeks; fair enough. My company have now told my colleague to also self isolate for two weeks

No they don’t. People who wear masks wear them to stop their own germs infecting others by droplet infection.

People keep perpetuating this myth. for masks read surgical masks. Some articles correctly write 'there is little proof surgical masks stop infection' even that statement is not definitive. (Wheras change 'surgical masks' to 'face masks' as if they're all the same - they're not)

N95 which is not the bog standard surgical mask and has much higher protection levels definitely reduces the risk of airborne infection. That's exactly why health care professionals in Wuhan wear them.

If you're near someone with coronavirus who sneezes and you don't touch anything. You can still get it without N95 or higher and you could avoid it with one.

This Prof* Samer Bagaeen seems to be calling for mass panic. His interview is ridiculous and clearly just trying to make name for himself.

*He is not a health specialist either from my quick google search

Turns out I know him but haven't seen him for a few years. Got his number in my phone still. Small world.

His own website would seem to back that up (https://samerbagaeen.com/about-me/qualifications)

Samer Bagaeen holds first and second degrees in architecture and urban design from University College London (www.ucl.ac.uk) (ranked 4th in the World in 2012) and a PhD in planning studies (2003), also from UCL. He was awarded an MBA from the Strathclyde Business School in 2008. He is fluent in Arabic, English and Spanish and has previously studied at the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

Glancing through it seems he's pretty good at sitting on boards. For things. I guess

So he isn't qualified to comment on PHE's response to this outbreak at all. Just trying to make a name for himself and further his political goals. Nice one Samer!
