Denmark going into lockdown.

LV stop selling travel insurance.

Italy closes all stores except pharmacies and food outlets.

Talk of US banning travel from EU.

All happening!

Can you imagine what they'd do if this was something more than #JustFlu, a #MediaFrenzy that #WillOnlyKillAFewOldies?

The Italy next stage lockdown shows the seriousness of the situation there. But - equally - it really ought to have some effect at slowing and then halting the spread.

The danger for the world is that while individual countries might be able to wipe out the disease, getting rid of it everywhere at once is almost impossible. Therefore we're likely to have these as an ongoing on/off series of lockdowns for quite a while - until a vaccine is available, which surely is the priority for defeating it in the end.

The problem will be if it mutates enough to make a vaccine only partially successful.

That's the problem with "China have it sorted".

How do they? They have nearly 1.4bn people who have no immunity to it. How are they going to deal with that in any kind of timescale?

This is getting more serious every day , I thought there was overreacting but now looking at Italy it’s going to be life changing for many if the same happens to us .
I’d rather stop football etc now and take precautions whilst we can

The advantage of a totalitarian state with a long and honoured tradition of individual sacrifice for country is that when China says don't go within a metre of each other, wash your hands all the time, do not congregate, only make essential trips etc is that everyone does.

Imagine if it had the potency of SARS or MERS .... actually I’d rather not!

I agree with this; if we are going to have to do it anyway - which I think we are - then it would better to start now. Not just football of course - all cinema/theatre/pubs would be closed. No more rush hour in London.

It's such a big step I can see why they don't want to do it. But it is probably quicker over now than later - but it will take a long time to solve as any arrivals from any country still with the virus would have to go into quarantine.

I agree. We're all in this together, we need to fight back NOW.

I really will be surprised now if this weekends football goes ahead. If by chance it does the Arsenal game will be it for a while

With the break anyway after Arsenal. I'd be very surprised if us fans get back to the Amex again this season after Saturday.
