651 people died yesterday. This is not over.

It’s here to stay along with the winter flu and common cold. That was made plain from the beginning by real experts. But with its effect diminishing over time, especially in a largely vaccinated population.

I’d like to know the proportion dying just now with Covid who are completely vaccinated. A colleague of my brother, in his 60’s, who was a complete conspiracy theorist eg he denied the existence of Covid and was unvaccinated, died last month with Covid.

To the bitter end he was proud of his viewpoint, as are his loved ones.

It may or may not be over but 650 people didn’t die yesterday.

It will be interesting to compare it to the ONS data when it catches up to see how many died with covid mentioned on their death certificate.

Brighton factually.....
You'll be fine, honestly. How long ago did you have your vaccine?

You only have to look at the start of this thread to see what a mess I was with this virus, I thought I'd have a heart attack if I tested positive. I got it and was fine, developed a cough after I tested negative, GP says this is quite frequent now. And the line, it does get bolder, after a couple of days it looked like someone had drawn a line with a permanent marker on ours.

I think re booking your flights for next Saturday is a bit optimistic though. Most people I speak to are testing negative after 10 days

Just taken a test and it is faint now, possibly move flights to Monday and at least get away for a week.

As for the covid, first two says really achy, headaches etc, nothing to bad, actually if I was not off, I would have gone to work.
Vaccines a big thumbs up 👍

I hope we (52) will get boosters in the winter.

Is there any data over how often you can get covid ?

We had covid in Feb, and we are going to the US next week and still need a supervised LFT before we go. I’m getting a bit of grief from her indoors about going to the game Sunday etc …

Did you have an official NHS test with written (email) confirmation that you were positive? If so, you can use that instead of a day-before test.

What you need is a signed document of proof of recovery from covid in the last 90 days. And to get that, you go to one of the websites that do this sort of thing (I used medicspot), email your I.d. and positive test result, confirm that you have recovered from all the symptoms, and pay them £59. They send you back (by email) a signed certificate of recovery within 24 hours. It works. That's how I got to the USA a fortnight ago.

It sounds a bit dodgy, but it isn't. If your own GP provided that service, they would do it exactly the same way.

Seems steep - but good option as a back up - thanks!

I wouldn’t worry too much, they hardly pay attention if you do it via the phone.

It’s a farce

yep , yet another way to get your $$ out of you under the auspices of covid , the Mrs and i are going to Zambia on May 1 , the certificates and passes we need to have are eye watering , time consuming and exorbitant.

I'm surprised if the supervised phone test is much cheaper? Good luck either way.

The reason for the 90-day exemption is that if you have had the virus in the last 90 days, there is a chance that you will still test positive even though all you have is the remains of dead virus cells. Tests within 90 days (some say 180 days, but the USA goes for 90) can't be relied on.

But if that's what you're going for, you would be well advised to avoid crowds for a few days before. Remember that neither vaccine nor natural immunity stop you from breathing in the virus; they just give your body the tools to deal with it once it's in.

Good news. The "masks on public transport" rule has been thrown out by a Florida judge, and the national government has agreed that it's unenforceable anywhere as a result. So it applies only if state or local operators have made it the rule.

.

Thanks for your help. On this point - yes. Managed to get supervised tests from Qured for £22 each, so fair bit cheaper than the £49-£59 ish for a recovery letter! But good back up option if needed
