I suspect RDZ didn’t know quite how good Groß and Gilmour were when first joined us and so identified Dahoud 6 months before he even signed for us.

Billy had the stalker stuff and has clearly improved many fold since Dahoud came in to battle for his position. That may well have helped in addition to his calmer private life. Groß has gone on to start for Germany (as we all knew he could from watching him for what 5 years?). Lallana has stayed fit. Baleba has come in looking raw but stuck around the squad instead of being loaned out for a period.

Much like Webster as a depth player I have no problem with Dahoud as 5th choice but would not feel comfortable with him starting regularly. It’s the Undav effect. If you’re happy on the bench stay and we’re glad to have you, if you are determined to play most matches then best you leave (with our blessing and on our terms).

Dahoud needs to look at how Billy Gilmour responded when he was on the fringes and on the verge of being loaned out, that's how you do it!

He reminds me of Stephen Alzate, well almost identical in slight physique and style of play. Since Alzate wasn't good enough, hardly surprising Mo has also made the same little impact.
He's not a defensive midfielder, hasn't got the physicality. Is he then in attacking midfield/playmaker Ale Mac role?

He's a pound shop Adam Lallana, without his pedigree or close to that level of skill, and so far, a million miles off Macallister.

No, he hasn't been good enough, may never be and RDZ has him low down the pecking order. However if he goes who will you pick on next? You always need one, someone you can make your mealy mouthed, snide comments about, otherwise you won't feel like the big brave soldier you obviously are.
Have you got some knitting you need to be getting on with ?

You’re on the wrong forum if you don’t want to see players getting slated.

I think it’s exactly this. Couldn’t have worded it better. Doesn’t strike me as a bad apple to keep about the place in case we need him, but would respect his wishes if he wants away to be playing.

Do we have ‘bench players’ given how much RDZ rotates ? Except the youngsters

Alzate always put in a shift, and never let the team down. I'd take him in the squad over Dahoud every time at the moment.
Alzate’s contract ends in 6 months. His chances of returning to fight for a place in a crowded midfield - (even without Dahoud) - and with reports club are looking to sell him in this window - look remote.

I'm happy if the club have decided to focus on the Jacks and Carlos.
Dahoud was worth the risk but there is something missing there. I don't know if he has the hunger or quality of our other senior pros. Something doesn't seem to quite fit. So let's develop the younger players.

Sorry mate, I'm a straight, white male. Not your preferred victim demographic at all.

What I find interesting is that you actually started a thread on here complaining about people going on the Internet to slate our players and yet now have been triggered by me joking about how we always need one player in the squad for people to moan about. I hadn't replied to you specifically, nor mentioned you in anyway and yet you choose to attack me.

Could it be because I challenged your racist bigotry previously I wonder? I was merely pointing out that foreign people are allowed their opinions and yet that has clearly angered you. Chasing after me on an Internet forum isn't going to change that, it is just a bit pathetic.

You sir are a complete melt.

Yes indeed. That doesn't alter the fact that I'd prefer to have Alzate in the squad than Dahoud.

Alzate is a bit of a myth. Decent player who will have a fantastic career - but not in line with our aspirations

Is there more on this available than has been confirmed on here? I've seen the comments from Naylor about De Zerbi telling Dahoud he expected more, but not seen anything about Dahoud's reaction. Isn't it possible that not using him yesterday was about sending a sign about the seriousness, or that he is giving Dahoud time to consider which response he wants to give (e.g. take the weekend to consider if you really want knuckle down and really make a go of it here, or if you want to go elsewhere).

I just bring this up because most responses on here seem to be of the 'well, his career with us is over', and I feel like word from the club shared on here isn't that final. Isn't it just as possible he is about to refocus and come back to the team with better performances that live up to the expectations when we signed him?

I don’t think we should also underplay how some can struggle to settle down in new countries etc as a factor as well

All RDZ has done is told the truth, his performances haven’t been good enough, Dahoud has had long enough to learn and settle now and is clearly not giving him an acceptable amount of effort/quality, if he’s not willing to change that he will be called out on it, RDZ often does this with other players and most of the time it seems to spur players on to respond.

To a lesser extent he’s critiqued Pedro and Gilmour in recent weeks in the press saying they’ve been good but could do more etc it’s just the type of man manager he is, feels like he needs 100% from players, 60% commitment isn’t good enough.
