The greatest at what?

Singing? No.
Stage performance? She's up there.
Song writing? Not even close.
Being culturally relevant? Maybe 20 years ago.

Gaga is better in every conceivable way IMO.

She’s had a long and successful career, but there are loads of female singers I would rather listen to, starting in the 60s with people like Dusty Springfield and Sandie Shaw.

In fairness, she was incredibly influential - on girls/women, in general, not just the music biz.

She should have stuck with the 'Earth Mother' vibe though (her Ray of Light album is fantastic). Guess she was never going to grow old gracefully.

Music for Heart FM listeners before Adele become their queen.

Not really. Madonna was primetime pop on her fourth album. Never middle of the road.

The type of act that’s always on commercial radio, Robbie Williams is another that was always on, now it’s Ed Sheeran and Adele.

Never forgiven the Hand of God goal personally. It’s Pele for me, though Messi is up there too.

This isn’t a singing competition.

If it was, opera singers, Bessie Smith, Dusty, Aretha Franklin, Karen Carpenter, Diana Ross …. would crush all the names mentioned here.

Madonna’s a great pop star who produced a string of decent to fantastic pop songs. Not her own doing, producers were at the heart of it.

She's just extremely good at what she does. Interestingly, if you set her next to Adele that just highlights in every conceivable way how much better she is. Some might argue that Adele has a better voice, and technically she probably does, but her artistic output is a repetitive loop of howling misery, with no sign of her ever breaking out into something more imaginative, thought provoking or entertaining. Madonna's not afraid of reinventing herself, and nearly always does so successfully. I think she's brilliant, a very clever woman, and a great female role model.

Are you serious? She’s a vile, unhinged narcissist, abusive to just about everyone who has ever worked with her, backing dancers, choreographers, set designers, friends and family members too. Very far from being a great role model of any kind to anyone. Even her son has little to do with her and chooses to live with his dad.

If it wasn't for the fact she was so controversial with her open views on sexuality and soft porn stage shows then she wouldn't have stayed in the spotlight for so long.
She has produced some mega hits which you have to applaud her for, but she's also churned out some appalling shite.
Me and the Mrs watched a documentary about her recently (Truth or Dare, I believe) and right from the start you can see she has issues with being the centre of attention. Daddy either didn't love her enough or way too much, but she tries to make every minute detail into something big and about her, it's embarrassing to see someone behave like that and all her crew just nodding in the background and stroking her bitchy ego.
As an entertainer, she's possibly up there, but as a singer, not even close to top 10.

Musically and vocally there is no comparison, however for on stage presence Madonna is much much better

On stage presence, Shirley Bassey wins hands down, and didn’t need controversial publicity to maintain it.

Here
Had an interesting chat in the pub earlier - who is the best of all time. Hard to look past Madonna.

Easy to snark at, and she should've stopped a decade ago, yet she remains one of the most talented and influential pop stars of all time.

Before you type "she can't sing", she absolutely can. She is a phenomenal singer. And she has written and performed some of the most iconic pop songs of all time.

"Take a Bow" in particular is an absolute masterpiece, and if it weren't Madonna (who wrote and sang it - definitively) it would be considered one of the best songs ever produced.

Are you competing for Crodo’s crown???
