Do you know what is the first sign of madness ?

Waking up in the morning, opening the curtains and seeing Suggs walking up your driveway.

Madness was one of my first bands as a kid, wasn't allowed to go to the BC aged 10 in 1981 and have never seen them live. . . not sure I'd want to now, unless maybe at a festival, but I don't begrudge them having a pension party to earn a crust and it entertains many I'm sure.

very easy to be too critical in hindsight, but they have written great songs, and are a great band, as have/are Squeeze, just from a different standpoint.

First time I saw them was 81 at the BC, really glad I saw them back then, they were brilliant.
Also saw them in 94 and they were also good, still listen to them now and again but wouldn’t pay £40 to see them now.

If anyone is interested Squeeze were superb and a little bit surprisingly, so were Madness. Tilbrook and Difford were at their best and good old Suggs and the boys were really up for it and put everything into all the classics.

Not everyone’s taste but it was great fun.

The second sign of madness?

Waking up after dreaming about the cast of Are You Being Served, opening your curtains and the ghost of Molly Suggs-den’s walking up your driveway.

I would agree with all of that. Great evening of classic tunes from both bands.

I last saw Madness 5 or 6 years ago and felt that they were going through the motions a bit and it was just another pay-day for them, but last night they were nearly back to the levels of Finsbury Park '92, despite being without Chas Smash these days.
