To be fair to him though, he posted something pretty innocuous and basically got told that he’s a rapist because of it. I’m not sure he’s the problem here.
He didn't though did he?

I get it – he fights back when 'attacked', which is fine – to a point. But whether it's the language barrier, his personality, or the fact that he has to have an opinion on pretty much EVERYTHING on the board, the way his input comes across is not always appreciated.

IMO, like.

I make no secret I used to post as Nibble. I’m interested to see what this embarrassing lie it is I was supposed to have told though.

You seem like a decent poster but you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. If you aren’t willing to back your claim up, I suggest you wind your neck in.
Noooo.. surely not. Years ago you said you weren’t Nibble and I believed you. I just thought you were his long lost evil half brother and left it at that. I hate it when this happens.

He did indeed lie about being nibble for several months. But frankly I can't be arsed to trawl through to find the evidence.

I think this highlights what a toxic affect he has on this board. And he’ll be lapping it up. Narcissists love being talked about, negatively or positively. Attention is all they crave.

I realise I’m part of the problem.
At risk of continuing the derailment: it actually highlights the toxic effect of those who did the baiting. Responding to the baiting doesn't help - but if those doing the baiting are allowed to succeed in removing an individual from the board, with no consequences for themselves, then it's inevitable that they'll eventually target someone else and do it again. Eventually, instead of the moderators being in control of the direction this community takes it'll be the bullies instead. And that becomes a community that many potentially valuable contributors simply won't be interested in.

Oh how I long for the days of yore. A binfest lasted the duration of a slow weekday afternoon, nobody was accused of bullying, nobody got upset for being called a wally, attention soon turned to something else without one tear being shed and nobody got upset on other people’s behalf. Not like this pitiful winge-fest.

Perhaps I should go back to being Nibble 😜
Simpler days.

Of course I’m not, I enjoy your posts, even when they are put downs
Good man.

But... you have made me feel a bit embarrassed over that sentence so if I may.....

What I mean was that I have enjoyed some conversations with Swanny when he has challenged my conventional 'scientific' and 'reductionist' approach to making sense of the world, particularly when it concerns issues that are just beyond our reach. For example, the workings of global politics, the control of information, and even the frontiers of scientific knowledge. These are areas where being able to see just beyond what is easily visible and what is explicable using a conventional rubric will give you a huge advantage. I suspect most people on NSC would generally agree with my conservative approach to this. But I can appreciate Swanny's more (what is the word?) adventurous approach to the pursuit of the truth. So we have had some fun exchanges on the nature of proof, the benefits and risks of the creation of working hypotheses and, the area of most disagreement, how to weigh the value of information of widely differing provenance, and how confirmation bias determines where we decide to draw a line. A paper in Nature published 5 years ago that has been reproduced and shown to be likely to be true, or the deep web?

What I also meant was that most people can't be arsed to argue the toss with strangers on a football forum about such stuff. Which is why it is only really Swanny who pushes me in this regard.

But, that aside, it is true that I do often come across as an arrogant arsehole. I attribute this to my neurodiversity. In reality I am not at all competitive, but when I get a bee in my bonnet I won't let it drop. No filters. I like to think that 'this way discovery lies'.

Now, I have work to do so go away and stop distracting me, you Icy bastard

👀….really? Gawd…when was that
I personally know all that were involved. It all got worked out amicably and everyone got along afterwards.
The poster in question even PM’s me upon leaving NSC and left a very decent message.

Nowadays, I suppose we’d all just have a cry.
