I was just wondering. I'm not sure it's anti-CMS as we'd love to see him score 20!

It's more just questioning but I dunno

Fair enough... CMS doubters then!?

The Peterborough videos show Macca as a much more accomplished and confident player, even shooting with his left foot and scoring on one occasion. So not only can he improve, but it looks like he has played better in the past.

Again in League 1.

Now Becchio is one player who has scored 20 in the Championship season for Leeds. I think he was aged 25 or 26 then. About the same age as Macca.

But I do not see Macca as out and out goalscorer, more a pick up and run player at the opposing defence from a deeper role. If I remember rightly, he did this in one match and put a pass on the toes of Toby Agdestein who saw his soft attempt saved by the opposing keeper.

CMS might benefit hugely from Vicente being fully fit from the off. Vicente is the player who is most likely to thread through the sort of passes that CMS will flourish from. Here's hoping, anyway.

I feel this too. Given the way Vicente played against Chelsea, with Crofty alongside, CMS just may get a lot better service this season.
Hopefully we can look back at this thread at the end of the season and a few people will have to eat humble pie.
I cant believe the shit he gets off some fans because he only had a half decent season last year.

Yes he did. It doesn't alter the point though does it.

It's exactly the point. Players can score a hatload in League 1 ie Glen Murray, CMS etc but not in the Championship. Barnes has done better and is still learning. CMS has wasted many a one on one situation - the first at Leicester which was a howler, and yet still fans excuse him by saying that he isn't scoring because of lack of service. He is a good striker but not consistent enough to be our main striker at this level.

I agree, but also at Leicester Harley missed a double chance from a similar position and Barnes also did not take a good opportunity.

I do honestly think we need a box to box Target man who can play alongside CMS. Somebody we can use plan B with, because times last season we were losing the ball far to often in the air, against big tall defenders and we tried it with Vokes and Barndoor but neither of them were the type of player, who I thought were good enough to go alongside CMS. I know this might sound like a ridicolous statement to make, but I think Heskey or even Becchio would be the answer to our Striker problems.

No, it's not the point at all, you have simply decided what the point is! I was talking about CMS and confidence. All aspects of a player's game are affected by their confidence (or lack of it) including his much (overly) derided on here, first touch. I am not going to repeat myself, my opinion of the player and how to get the best out of him (IMO) is stated herein.

Flawed.

5 man (including 3 centre) midfields is the way forward. All the progressive managers and teams playing that way, including Gus .
To win the midfield battle.

Barnes shows flexibility and can assist in midfield. CMS doesn't have that in his locker.

But when you spend the amount of money we spent on CMS, you do expect a better return than from Barnes (£50k) and Harley (£300k?)

So you don't think we are "light" upfront then?!

Midfield no longer needs help though does it?.... we now have a central 3 of V, C and B...... with wide men dropping as required.

The money's already been spent, forget it, it's time to get the best out of all your players.

Personally, I think the problem with CMS towards the end of the season was his movement. He had lost confidence in what he was doing, and was always taking half a second to think what he was going to do. As a result both his positioning and first touch suffered, but the positioning was the bigger deal, he is not the most technically gifted player we have, so will always make the odd poor touch, but his poor positioning meant that he was not getting the ball so often. Look at who Vicente passes to most often, Barnes, they have a real understanding because Barnes moves so intelligently, this is what is lacking in CMS's play.

Also if I read one more post about us signing a big man to complement CMS I'm gonna proper lose my shit. Have the people suggesting this possibility not watched us play for the last two and a half seasons? Big man, little/quick man front lines are the province of crappy League Two teams, not those aspiring to reach the Premier League.

Yup, but it is understandably going to alter people's expectations, when he was hailed as the big money marquee signing of the summer.

Yes indeed, I was just making the point on that day he was not alone at serious misses, although his miss was unbelievable.

You really are overly-aggressive, aren't you!? As well as regularly spouting opinionated BS.. how will it look to Tony B, Gus boss' then?

No. Well I don't mean to be, anyway.

But how will it look to Tony Bloom if Gus sells CMS and gets another striker in who shoots us to the Premier League? It will look fantastic.

Would you rather our manager stuck with someone who he didn't think was right becuase he didn't want to look bad, or would you rather he cut his losses and made some tough decisions for the greater good?

Oh, and...

The Commander's stated assumption that we can just pluck a free-scoring striker out of thin air is amongst the biggest load of sh1t I've EVER read on here... we are struggling to bring in 1 striker, let alone 2! Please, please can the CMS-haters just get real...

By the way, I'm not a CMS hater by any means, I've said all along I think he'll come good, and that we should give him another season. I still stand by that. But Gus might not think that, and if we could sell CMS and get someone better, then I'd be happy with that as well. Wouldn't you?

As for your point about us struggling to bring in a decent striker (not quite sure where I've said that we can pluck one out of thin air), well lets just wait and see, shall we? You might just be pleasantly surprised....

I'll bounce this thread for you shortly for you to write your apology....
