There's the chance that he didn't have as much success as he thought and he wants to go score loads of goals before he vanishes.

However, I'd like to see him achieve his potential here. he's a fantastic bloke a hard worker and has finished well when he's not exhausted.

I really hope he steps up like Barnsey did on the weekend, and plays a bit cleverer, whilst getting some decent service.

Could he play the top of a fake nine? I think he can but it's up to him to stop chasing so hard and let the ball do the work.

OK CMS hasn't turned out for us for a couple of weeks but is injured and understandably not been included in the Scotland squad either.

I still think there is still a big question over this rumour. Yes we could do with a striker to give us more options if we want to be contenders but Gus would also have to swallow a huge portion of humble pie having previously stated that he wanted to build a squad around CMS. Ok there is no room for sentiment in footie, especially if we want to take the next step into the Premiership. However I don't see any guarantees that McCormack would do any better than CMS, especially if we play the same system that left CMS isolated many times and also didn't have the benefit of Vicente for most of last season.

Maybe the financial situation at The Albion isn't as rosy as we hope and Gus is obliged to look at swop deals instead of continuing to build a squad, but I really hope we will keep CMS and add another striker with a Premiership pedigree. That would be a proper statement of intent. Anything less than that swop i.e. a CMS/McCormack would pose a few questions in the direction of our Boardroom, but somehow I can't see Tony Bloom having stumped up a fortune so far not finding the dosh for 1 more decent player.

I look forward to seeing CMS get some pitch time this week and I hope he will be a key squad player this season even if Gus brings in some additional firepower.

CMS is just not good enough. If we are offered anywhere near 2million i would snap Ken Bates hand off. Leeds would be crazy to do a straight swap with RM, i would be very happy with it though

Not sure RM will fit in any better than McSmudger to be honest,to play the gus way both inteligence and skill are required not many strikers have both

You're not the first person to say this, and you won't be the last - but it simply baffles me. Gus has proven in the past he's ruthless when it comes to players. Look how he dumped/dropped Virgo, Kuipers, Forster, Murray, Navarro, Casper etc. He's not going to give a shit how people see his purchase and sale of CMS - he wants to manage in the Premiership and will only do so by making big decisions.

On top of that, selling a player for the same as you paid for him isn't a failure at all. Especially if he brings in someone better.

I'm sure Gus said at the forum that it was his job to help CMS score 20 goals a season........................... maybe he thinks the best way to achieve that is to let him go to his second favourite club. After all, he didn't say 20 goals for us

:fishing:

Seriously there could be something in the rumour or it could be nothing. There are rumours today that Warnock has switched his attention elsewhere.

Whatever happens I think we will have a big striker in the next couple of days and then if CMS does go he needs to be replaced as well. It is certainly going to be an interesting last week or so of pre-season

Gus hates admitting failure he dropped Ankergren far too late had Brezovan been made number 1 earlier we would have made the play offs,Gus must however admit McSmudger was a mistake if not forget promotion

So - as if to prove my point, please explain how CMS's replacement will score 20 goals if he only gets the same (lack of) service - does Gus admit that he got his own tactics wrong and changes how we play? Either way it's humble pie time. The alternative is my preferred option - keep CMS and then strengthen the squad with another striker, but someone with a premiership pedigree (so that counts McCormack, Rhodes, Becchio etc out). That is the sort of statement of intent that we are aiming for the Premiership. Anything less than that is questionable. IMHO The Championship will be even tougher this season and will take a bit more than swopping strikers to make a big impact.

I don't get it. So if Gus sells CMS and brings in another striker who scores 20 goals and leads us to promotion, he'll be eating humble pie?

This place really is weird sometimes.

According to CPFC2010, when we sell CMS to Leeds, they'll get whatshisname allowing them to sell Winifred for £100 Million to Real Madrid.

so he has to admit CMS is a mistake or we can't get promoted...interesting ...and admitting the so called mistake will guarantee promotion? interesting theory Mcnutt

Read the earlier exchange #282. Merely quoting Gus this time last year saying he wanted to build squad around CMS, so would be humble pie time if he sells him now but acknowledging there is no room for sentiment in footie. Especially in our case when we are looking to be promotion contenders. My real concern is that we could bring in Messi but even he wouldn't be prolific if he had to put up with the service that CMS had. Why would McCormack do significantly better?

Last season was very much about building a squad for promotion hopefully after this coming season or worse case after 2013/14, so bear with it. Secondly that Gus is also finding his feet as a manager at this level too so will understandably make a mistake or two. If CMS is one of those mistakes (I never viewed CMS as a Prem striker, but more someone who might help get us there and maybe remain a squad player?) then ok as long as equally Gus learns his lesson and as long as we progress upward. This is all about the bigger picture and the vision that Tony Bloom has for The Albion. It might be 'weird' but is an honest appeciation and one that you have agreed with in the past.
