In terms of scanning, I’m in the camp where you use the same number of syllables or beats as in the original. You’ve indicated 9 here. The original Oasis song has 11 in that line.

It does, but 'he only cost us a couple of million' just doesn't work.

As for the original, only the second line of the first verse has 11; subsequent verses have 8 or 9. - e.g. 'and god only knows how I've missed her' (9)' we don't get on with one another (9), or 'in fact she's got 'bout a dozen (8)'.
