Lynch denied transfer request

Joel Lynch wants to leave Albion but his demand has been rejected by the Seagulls.

They have turned down a written transfer request from the 20-year-old centre half.

Youth team product Lynch, an injury doubt before the first game of the season, has lost out so far at the heart of the defence to summer signing Colin Hawkins and at left-back to Matt Richards, who has returned on loan from Ipswich.

His demand comes with Albion flying high near the top of the League One table after an unbeaten start in which they have conceded only two goals in four games, one of them a penalty.

Manager Micky Adams said: “I can confirm that Joel has submitted a written transfer request but, as far as the club is concerned, I have recommended to the Board and the Board have agreed with me that we turn it down.”

Lynch has scored two goals in 93 appearances for Albion, the latest as a second-half substitute against Bristol Rovers at Withdean 11 days ago, since breaking into the first team in January 2006.

He was on target with Jake Robinson and Jonny Dixon yesterday in a 3-0 friendly victory for the reserves at Wycombe Wanderers.

Adams, hoping to add creativity to his squad before the transfer window closes on Monday, is coy about the prospect of a move for Crystal Palace’s Brighton-born winger Paul Ifill.

He said: “Paul’s been placed on the transfer list by Neil Warnock and if he was available he is a player that we may be interested in but we are interested in a lot of players at the moment so I would have to scotch that rumour.”

If he wants to go sell him for good money.
And spend it wisely on a creative midfielder, forward and a keeper.

I seem to remember that Lynch signed a multi-year contract last summer (4 or 5 years if memory serves me correct). Can anyone else elaborate?

I suspect that he will be playing against Orient nw that the Hawk is injured - that may well resolve the percieved problem.

Correct decision by Adams to keep him as he will get plenty of chances through the season. hopefully Knight will back the manager although if rumours of an offer are true (or if this article is a "plant" to attract interest that may be out there) and we need the money..........................................

It was KNIGHT at the press conference that catagorically said he will not keep players that do not want to be here, and the first player this season that says he doesnt want to be here, is not allowed to leave

Let him go, he has value in him, so sell him and use the money to buy some attacking options as we are well covered at the back with Elphick, Hawkins, Virgo, El Abd, Mayo, Pearson, Livermore, Whing and Richards

Sad that he wants to go so soon, but still makes the decision to play Hawkins ahead of him look ridiculous, if it's going to mean losing such a great prospect.

You are correct, but he also added the player would only be allowed to go, if the right offer came in.

Withdean likes a good moan up, at the slightest bit of anything that is not hunkydory.

Will Lynch get booed if he plays against Orient

I hope not, he is a class act, just needs to apply himself well and he could keep Hawkins out the team after he recovers from injury

I think he only handed in a request as he knows of a big money bid for him

Totally disagree with that.

Think mickey wants virgo to get use to the midfield roll and if hawk is not fit will play joel
i really hope unless we get great money that joel stays as really rate him and im also convinced he has 3 years of his contract left to run

He looked as if he had the potential to be a class act but, in the last two seasons, he has fallen short of that. For sure he has had injury problems, but I am not sure now that he has progressed to be the class player we all thought he might be.

Even at his ideal CB position he hasn't looked as solid as I hoped he would be by now. The way he was playing two years ago I thought he would be the first name on the team sheet by now. Would still love him to be, but I understand why he isn't.

In my view he is not worth as much now as he was two years ago.

'til 2011 I think. We don't need to worry about that at least.

Can't see Micky moving Virgo from midfield - who would he bring in to allow him to move back?

Get Lynch in - he's more than capable. But at this time not as able as the incumbents.

However, if Lynch wants to go and we get a good offer (incl sell on clause), take it. We do have a lot of cover esp when McLeod is back and Virgo could then go back to CB and if MA can pick up another midfielder.

Totally disagree with that.

I'm with algie. Hawkins is 31. He's good for this season, probably next, but beyond that? If we are in the Championship (which is what we're aiming for) I'm not sure he'll be up to it. Lynch, on the other hand, will be.

I think MA is looking to play a 'wait and see' game. If Lynch is still out of the team at xmas, and still wants to leave, then I think we'll probably have to get rid. But if he's back in, the team's riding high and he's happy again (or failing that, Forest or whoever have lost interest) then we get to keep him.
